I think it was the fact that they had the requirements set SO LOW early on causing everyone to jump on the "let me get a 5 year DTV" band wagon and because it's a visa that a person can get for a variety of reasons the checking takes longer for the documentation.
Now that the vetting has gotten marginally better (since everyone is with the online system and several nearby consulates require in person interviews before the visa is issued) we're seeing a bottle neck where the processing time is stretching out at certain consulates (especially the pay in person ones Vientiane/Savannakhet)
It does appear that a DTV for MEDICAL reasons is the fastest to be approved no matter what consulate you apply thru. If you have hospital records, paperwork stating you need long term medical treatment (not just you need a hang nail cut off) along with doc letter etc, those are pretty much approved right away
you'll also need a bank statement showing you have 500K baht in a bank account for the last 30 days before you apply for the extension, as well as the documents I mentioned earlier.
You would be doing yourself a favor to slog on over to your immigration office and get the actual hand out listing the requirements to get that DTV extension well before your current stamps starts running out
Remember at most offices you can apply for a new extension when you have 30 days or less left on your current stamp and you lose no time applying early because they add the extension to your current expiration date
as far as a TDAC you could be asked for that for the extension IF you entered the country on or after the 1st of May 2025 when the TDAC program started.
You are correct, you can get ONE 180 day extension per entry on your DTV
BUT
I think even a brief perusal of the posts from people who've tried to get them will show that you are definitely going to be doing a LOT of hoop jumping to get one issued
It's going to require the same documentation you used when you applied for the initial DTV (where ever you got it)
AND
all the in country documentation you need (DTV print out, lease/TM30, 90 day report receipt, bank records, proof you're still doing what ever you said you do to get the DTV issued, etc)
It is FAR easier to just fly out/back to get a new 180 day entry stamp
If you got your FIRST extension using banked money method (the 800K baht) you would have needed to keep that in your thai bank account for 3 months after your current extension was issued and then at no time could the balance have gone before 400K baht the rest of the year
AND
(because you're from a country whose embassy here no longer issues the income affidavit notary) to switch over from proof of funds based on banked money to the proof of funds based on monthly income by international transfer you would have needed to transfer in to a thai bank account in your name only from abroad a minimum of 65k baht a month, each month every month, for the previous 12 months before you apply for the new yearly extension
As you can see this means you actually meet the seasoning requirements from the extension you're on with banked money (having the 400K in the bank) AND you would also meet the requirements to get the next yearly extension by international transfer method
From the bank;
- You need a year detail statement printed from your bank here, you highlight each and every monthly incoming transfer from abroad, showing you hit the minimum 65K baht a month in international transfers,
- You need the 'standard bank letter' (just a few lines from the bank stating your name, the account and the balance the day they wrote the letter)
- You also need to update your bank book the date you apply for the extension too
I'd go to the immigration office where you got your extension issued (where you're applying for the new one) and get the hand out listing the requirements at that specific office (because there are OVER 80 offices in the country)
This is a list of general requirements for an extension based on retirement, it is NOT immigration office specific.
most offices give you a 30 day under consideration stamp (which is ADDED on to the expiration date of your current stamp because it's the first month of your new year extension)
They have to send the paperwork to bangkok to get it signed off on no matter what office they are and even in bangkok (which has only a 21 day under consideration stamp) has to send the paperwork "upstairs" to get them approved.
Doubtful you have a Non-B VISA and instead it's more likely you're on an "extension of stay" <-look at the stamp in your passport.
Your "piggy back" family members aren't on Non-O visas either they'd be on an extension of stay that matches yours
Which means IF you are leaving that employer you'd cancel ALL the extensions, exit/re-enter the country and everyone would start over from scratch. You with a new Non-B and them with new Non-O's based on you being employed here
Because your family is "piggy backing" on your extension when you change yours, theirs has to be changed too.
