My passport only has maybe 7 more spots *available and will be shot in one maybe 2 more trips out.

I understand I'll need, both passports and a letter from Consulate stating new passport received.

Is transferring an extension of stay from old passport to a new one a relatively easy [quick] process as compared to obtaining the extension of stay (retirement)?

* some Malaysian I/O need to be a little bit more considerate when stamping. A page should fit 6, too many have just 4 ... just saying :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
Michael McKinney is inquiring about the process of transferring an extension of stay from his old passport to a new one, as he faces limited space in his current passport. He seeks clarification on whether this transfer is a relatively quick process compared to obtaining the extension of stay for retirement. Additionally, he comments on the need for more considerate stamping practices by Malaysian immigration officials.
