Why are agents for visa processing not allowed in this group?

Just a note to the members:

We do NOT allow questions about agents in the country that push paper (get visas) for people and we do not allow people to recommend them in the group. Period, end of story.

If you feel you need an agent to do your paperwork for your visa or extension inside the country use a search engine to find one or ask on another group.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but it is not beyond the grasp of most people to get their paperwork together for a visa or an extension.

Feel free to recommend visa run companies that take people to thai consulates to get visas or the border to get visa exempt stamps and feel free to recommend agents in other countries that push paper at the thai consulates to get visas.

Thanx (y)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The group prohibits discussions about agents who assist with visa applications and extensions within Thailand due to concerns about the reliability of such agents and the potential for misinformation. Members can recommend visa run companies for trips to consulates or border crossings, as well as agents based in other countries but not for domestic paperwork. The policy aims to encourage individuals to manage their own visa applications where possible, as there is a belief that most can handle the paperwork themselves.

And seeing as it's a policy of the group, not something up for debate I think we know what we need to know..

FFS , people are only asking a question.

and we encourage people to ask questions on how to do various visa and extension related things. What is highly discouraged is spouting out the name of xyz agent that can "push paper" for them.

We have no way to vet or know if an agent is above board or engaging in shady practices.

The easiest way is to make a no agents inside the country policy and to have knowledgeable members provide information so people can push their own paper at the immigration office.

I can imagine that the problem is: the group is founded to help you in specific questions or situations. The agencies have a profit interest and didn't give you always the best choice for you.

many time all an agency will do is tell you they can "fix your problem" for xx baht. You don't even know what they're doing

I’m personally not necessarily opposed to people using such agents or recommending them - but not only do I think it’s indisputably within reason for a group to have its own rules for whatever reason they choose, I can actually see some genuine merit in this one.

how about agents for transportation that pick up in bkk and drives to thai embassy?

It is totally okay to ask for or recommend a visa run company that takes people to the border or to a thai consulate in another country to get a visa AND it's okay to recommend an agent in another country that can help people get visas at the consulate there.

It's just visa agencies that get visas or extensions for people INSIDE of thailand that are prohibited.

I suggest that you input the info above on the “about us” section which may inform new members in advance about this group.

It's just not :O if you need a visa agent to get you a visa or an extension this is not the group to ask about one on :/ Google is your friend or there are other groups you could ask.

Tod, I agree with the thrust of this post. But when it comes to B visa and a Work Permit not just anyone can do it. The laundry lists from the Labor Ministry and Immigration as to the required documents has many documents that would be needed for some but not others, i. e. teachers. So which ones apply to the applicant. I could not get a solid answer on this from any officer. They usually recommended to get an Agent. I have recommended (generically) to some that a Visa Agent is necessary but I make a preference for Accounting firms that offer such services for B Visa and WP. I have done my own Extension of Stay for 'retirement' three times, I have two Universiy degrees and went through two careers - last one owner of computer business for 22 years and I could not make sense of the B Visa - WP application procedure and process. The process seems like a circle of confusion even after visiting the Labor Ministry and Immigration offices twice. And when I went for the B Visa Extension the I/O insisted I bring the visa agent. This process can easily be beyond the grasp of many applicants. Finally I agree that names of Visa Agents should not be posted - any number of them are shysters. But I see nothing wrong with saying if you do not feel you can do this yourself then find a reputable visa agent and then decline to recommend any Agent by name.

Also after 5 years of reading hundreds and hundreds - perhaps more than a thousand visa / WP related posts I find that large numbers of people have no clue about the application process and the terminology as is witnessed here on this group every day. Often even after lenghtly threads trying to help people - many posters still seem lost. So what are they supposed to do?

Lastly, I firmly detest Visa Agents who falsify financial requirements for 'retirement' Extensions and agree 100 % that these Agents are totally off limits.
