I’ve deposited 800k THB in Thai bank account as of October 14. Plan was to arrive and apply for non-O leading to retirement extension.
Are you saying I need to prove the origin of those funds?
I will be applying in Chiang Rai (Mae Sai) area. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Lee Hoffmann is inquiring about the requirements for applying for a Non-O visa in Thailand, specifically regarding the necessity to prove the origin of 800k THB deposited in a Thai bank. Commenters confirm that proof of the funds' origin is generally required for the initial 90-day Non-O visa based on retirement, particularly showing that the funds were transferred from abroad. However, there are differing experiences shared about whether this proof is consistently enforced at various immigration offices across Thailand.

For the yearly extension there is no proof of funds origin but for the 90 day in country Non-O visa at MOST offices you show that it came from abroad into a thai bank account in your name only
CHECK with your immigration office to see what they require.
So far the O/P is applying in Mae Sai (Chiang Rai) yet my experience is in Bangkok,
NONE of our experiences are with the office the O/P will use 🙁

ORIGINAL POSTER
unfortunately I had the feeling that this would veer off topic and turn into a "I use wise to move money" thread.
Good luck to the O/P, check with your immigration office as far a what they require when you apply for the 90 day Non-O based on retirement using banked money method.
sorry to ask, but I am a bit new to this, I am gearing up for retirement 2022, and was all set to transfer money to a bank account in Thailand through Wise, thinking that it gets labelled as international in order to fulfil the Visa requirements, however you have indicated that it doesn't do this , am I reading this correctly? Thanks for your reply 😊
Other techniques besides Wise can be used to send money to Thailand. Most banks should be able to do SWIFT transfers, and it will flag the money as coming from overseas.

We didn’t and did not have to for our bank, but something someone told me yesterday that I hadn’t heard before is you need to document w bank all large transfers of why you brought money into Thailand if you ever want to take it out of Thailand… 🤷♀️
One of the requirements for applying for an in country 90 day Non-O visa based on retirement using banked money method is showing that the funds were transferred in from abroad.
This is from the hand out about Non-O visa based on retirement they give you in Bangkok at the section that issues in country Non-Immigrant Visas
Check with your office to see BUT I'd imagine they will need proof the money came from abroad
