Answer summary
At Muang Thong Thani Immigration Office in Bangkok, the process differs based on your visa situation. If you've obtained a tourist visa from a Thai consulate before arrival, you should go to Counter J, where you are stamped in for 60 days. Conversely, if you did not acquire any visa beforehand, you should head to Counter K, which is usually very crowded, as you will be stamped in for free for 30 days. It's advisable to book an appointment online in advance, regardless of which counter you choose to minimize wait times.

OPATTENTION BANGKOK MEMBERS:
If you are using MTT to apply for the 60 day unable to travel due to covid and/or going back to 'close the loop' DO make an appointment if you can (and if you can't, at least take a screen shot showing that there were no openings on the date you were told to return).
That way you're sure to get served. There are conflicting reports about it
