Someone posted an update Jim Tachinamurthy in Penang posted

This is a re-cap of it

That consulate in Penang is closed Oct 10, 13 & 24

If you're gonna apply for a tourist visa in Penang you need to have;

-3 month bank statement with 50-80k baht in it

(that's almost DOUBLE the 20K baht that Vientiane and Savannakhet and HCMC and Hanoi require).

-confirmed flight out of Thailand in UNDER 60 days

-confirmed lodging until the flight out of thailand date

Seems a LOT more stringent than other places πŸ˜•

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thai consulate in Penang will be closed on October 10, 13, and 24. For those applying for a tourist visa in Penang, the updated requirements include a 3-month bank statement showing 50,000-80,000 baht, a confirmed flight out of Thailand within 60 days, and confirmed lodging until the flight date. This is significantly more stringent than requirements at other locations such as Vientiane, Savannakhet, HCMC, and Hanoi.

Follow what was recommended or not <- at your own peril

This is as updated of info on what's required at the thai consulate in Penang as you're going to get.

You don't want to meet these requirements, DON'T GO to Penang.

If the flight out is very soon after arriving in the kingdom, will they just reject it and say you don’t need a tourist visa?

@Ryan *******
follow those guidelines. if the flight out is short enough to cover with a visa exempt why would you be buying a tourist visa to stay 60 days?
