What should I know about entering Thailand on a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV)?

Starting my Thai adventure today. Entered on a one-way ticket thru BKK airport. Showed the printed PDF file to the Immigration lady, I think she scanned the QR code, and then said "have a good day" while smiling. I checked the date with my eyes while she wrote it, just in case, as I read in the group of some typos like writing 2024 instead of 2025, etc.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post shares a personal experience of entering Thailand on a DTV visa, highlighting the process at BKK airport with a printed visa document and the importance of checking the date stamped. Comments range from inquiries about visa types, specifics on the DTV visa duration (180 days with a 5-year valid term), reporting requirements, using an e-visa, and the necessity of a return ticket. Several users discuss the flexibility of travel into Thailand on one-way tickets and clarify the DTV visa's focus, which caters mainly to digital nomads and tourists, rather than business purposes.

DTV visa valid for 180 days
John ********
Is the DTV activated on the day it is granted, or on the arrival date at Bkk?

Hi. Was it difficult to get it?
Mathias *********
That date is just a reccomdation man. First time I came to Thailand in 1995 a room on Kao San cost me 80 THB. Those were the daaays, now Im stuck here, ha! have a blast.
Jason **********
You’re so lucky you have a passport from Costa Rica. Absolutely adore your country
Heikki **********
DTV visa, stay 180 days at one entry. Cost 350 €, and it`s valid for 5 years.
Elías ********
ORIGINAL POSTER
Heikki Tammisto The price is slightly different depending on which country to apply, Australia and NZ being both extremely expensive, but yeah, on average around US$400.

Anyone can buy the property in Thailand without having any business and visa
Parakorn **********
And you must leave during the greatest event in Thailand. Song Kran Festival.
Paul *******
Parakorn Chanjaru Not everyone is a drunk who wants to splash water for days on end. In most of Thailand, people splash water from around the 11th or 12th to the 15th or maybe 16th. Nearly everyone is back at work well before the 19th. The official Songkran holidays run from the 13th to the 15th.
Parakorn **********
Good researh !
Paul *******
Parakorn Chanjaru By the 19th, Songkran is over. Songkran finishes on April 15.
Parakorn **********
@Paul ******
Song kran Festival in Pattaya does not finish on 15th for sure.

Hope this isn't unrelated: as an Australian, I don't need a visa to enter if staying only a month. But do I need a booked return ticket?

- I'm thinking of only buying one way next time, as I want the flexibility to go where and when I want after...
Peter ********
Ward Peffer you can stay 60 days without a visa. Visa exemption rules changed.
Didier *********
Ward Peffer officially you need proof of how you leave the country. Can also be bus or train ticket. However they never check this!

We have entered Thailand many times without.
Sead *********
nice, im gonna look at it
Belinda ******
Hi Elias, do you know how long you need to be out of Thailand after the 180 days, before you can re-enter on that visa?
Bjørn **********
DTV gives you 180 days before leaving the country and then can re-entry for 5 year. You must have a DTV visa stamped in your passport
Joshua *********
Be safe have fun! Super happy for you my random friend.

Most times in my life going to Thailand since 1975.. outboard ticket needed... 🤔 Ummm

If I had a one way ticket I would be pulled to the side and whipped with a cane and return to the plane!!

Good luck.. going to there myself in November and yes I got a round trip.. Best Regards, Smitty Metro Cebu Philippines

Hans *****
Kirti Sharma it's with a DTV VISA!

wth is this: "Showed the printed PDF file to the Immigration lady" what needs to be printed??
Biff *******
@Martin *******
the visa, if you apply via the e-Visa government website, is emailed to you as a PDF file. You print it and show it to the immigration officer at the border.
Melody ******
you can stay at Thailand up to 180 days
Steve ******
I just stamped back in after being out of country for a week. I think they are getting used to the DTVs now. First time they did write first entry on the stamp in Thai(BKK). And it took a few minutes at the officers desk. This second time it literally took like 30 seconds(DMK).
William ********
@Steve *****
If you have an e-visa and get stamped in upon arrival, do you need any additional documents when you leave the country and get stamped back in?
Steve ******
@William *******
With my DTV visa I just showed the printed PDF copy I had once again.
William ********
@Steve *****
Good to know, thanks.
Steve *********
What is the purpose of a DTV? Is it strictly for business?
โกรัน *********
@Steve ********
if you are interested I can recommend you a very good Visa agency for DTV
Steve *********
โกรัน นิโคลิช Thanks but i wouldn't be doing it for business, strictly for tourism.

โกรัน นิโคลิช please tell me

Not for business, since not allowing work inside Thailand, only online work.

mainly for either digital nomads/remote workers (my case), people interested in taking soft power (muay thai, cooking, etc.) classes or getting medical treatment in Thailand.
Jack ********
I'll be entering with DTV next month. Do I have to go to immigration to check in every 3 months or do I not have to do anything until the 6 months point?
Paul ********
@Jack *******
Yes, 90 day reports are required every 90 days. Hence the name. 🙂
Jack ********
@Paul *******
I’m looking at the visa right now and there’s nothing written about a “90 day report”
โกรัน *********
@Jack *******
it’s very easy to do it, you can also do it online and don’t have to visit the immigration
Jussi *******
โกรัน นิโคลิช the first 90 days report must be in immigration after that online.
Steve ******
@Jack *******
Just the country for a few days and return and not have to worry about the 90 day report.
Paul ********
@Jack *******
It's not specific to the DTV. It's for all Visa's and can be found in the royal gazette. Search in here for the details.
Tod *********
Just curious why you blanked out the letter/number around the edge of your stamp

Do you even know what that is? <- it's the officer who stamped you in i/d tracking number so they can see WHO stamped you
Stephan ***********
@Tod ********
It wasn't him, it was the IO in Bangkok... they have "anonymous" day today... 🤣
Elías ********

@Tod ********
No, I didn't know what was it haha. Just hid it because I read here or on another group that it was better to do so, so I thought it was kinda an unique number. But if it belongs to an officer, then it's just generic and no need to hide it.
Tod *********
@Elías *******
everyone that stamped in at that counter on that shift while that officer was standing there has the same code around the stamp. 😛
Marta *************
I wonder if showing it on my phone will be enough
Phil *******
@Marta ************
Thais love their paper, I would print it, then you know you wont have a problem
Robert *******
@Marta ************
As you could read BEFORE you applied for the visa, but reading the comments you are not the only one to click acknowledge without reading.

But here you can try again
Henrik *****
Thai civil servants love paper copies, so bring a papercopy, and make the Immigration Officer happy, afterall he is the one that decides if you come in to Thailand or not.

Paper is so smart,

paper weighs nothing

paper does not run out of battery,

paper does not require (forgotten) passwords,

paper does not have auto-off after x seconds,

paper can be easily transferred,

paper does not require
Helen ********
@Marta ************
our first entry, the person beside me was asked by the IO for the paper, showed their phone. The IO accepted it, they obviously weren't happy about it based on how they handled the phone and told them next time paper. Personally, I wouldn't want someone to be handling my phone after touching so many passports and documents but I'll admit to being a bit germ adverse.
Andy **********
@Marta ************
any e-visas are supposed to be printed, the immigration officer needs to scan the QR code, people have talked about hold ups in lines, with immigration officers messing around with peoples phones, every time I arrive in Thailand my phone battery is flat, make sure you have a charger in your hand luggage.
Tolga *******
@Marta ************
yes it has a QR code
