This might be of interest to people as it takes effect from today onward.

They DID open up the "emergency extension" process to people other than chinese nationals.

READ the article you need to get a letter from your consulate. Contact your consulate to see how to get this letter if you can't travel.

AND

Remember you need to do this BEFORE you start overstaying.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Starting today, the emergency extension process has been opened to non-Chinese nationals in Thailand. To utilize this option, individuals need to obtain a letter from their consulate and it is crucial to do this before beginning to overstay their visa.

thanks I was just about to ask about the waiving of fines -- I'm due for a border run early march, can I delay it simply because I don't want to be exposed to crowds, transport, etc?

I'm almost 100% certain the answer is no. But ask your immigration office if they can issue you some type of special waiver and let us know what they say.

Hmm without reading the article, what if I have a edu visa that's expiring in 6 weeks time, no more extensions allowed.

yeah, I highly doubt you're gonna get an extension just because you are running out of ED visa extensions and looking for a way to maximize your time here. :/

Check with YOUR conuslate..

totally a strange picture to use for a news blurb that says foreigners can extend their stay by 30 days if their travel plans are disrupted due to covid-19
