DTV (DESTINATION THAILAND VISA)

Looks like more and more consulates are putting the DTV information up on their website

So far I found these:

Thai Embassy Washington DC United States

[members only]

Thai Embassy Vientiane Lao

[members only]

Thai Consulate Kota Bharu Malaysia

[members only]

NOW on eVisa system as a choice too !!!

[members only]

I included a write up from a seminar given July 5th about the visa

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is a new visa that allows eligible foreigners to stay in Thailand for extended periods. The main requirements include proof of sufficient funds (e.g., 500,000 THB) in a bank account, documentation supporting remote work or participation in activities (like cooking classes or Muay Thai), and meeting specific consulate requirements. Consulates may have different standards regarding documentation and fees, making it important to check specific requirements for the consulate where one applies. Applicants should prepare for the possibility of being asked for additional documents and ensure their financial statements meet the required balance consistently over a specified period.

Hi guys. When having dtv, do I need to do the 90day report ? And incase I want to avoid doing it , it should be ok when leaving the country each time before 90 days finish , right ? Or how does it work ?

Thank you for help

You can avoid the report by leaving before staying 90 days continuously. The report is due if you stay 90 days in a row,

the visa is valid for 5 years (so in theory you can enter any time during that validity)

BUT

Most consulates won't let you apply for the visa if you're not coming to thailand in 3 months or less

I have a business visa (49% ownership of a Thai corp and 4 Thai employees).

I will return to the USA next month (with re-entry permit) and would like to convert to the DTV. My work is remotely managing real estate that I own in the US.

Do I need to cancel my current business visa before I can apply for the DTV?

Has anyone showed a bank statement from shared account? My mother and I are on the same account and this is the account I will be using for proof of funds. Do I need to be the main account holder on this account or if I’m secondary, it’s ok? The USA LA consulate just asks for proof of relationship (birth certificate) but curious what others have experienced with this route. Thanks!

you would most likely need DOUBLE the amount in the account. That's how most consulates look at joint account, HALF the money is yours and the other half is who ever is listed on the account with you

I'd like to enter Thailand in December with a DTV. I'd rather get the DTV visa ASAP in case the requirements change later. For the visa application, I can show earlier (refundable) flights and hotel bookings if necessary. However, I've heard that the DTV visa becomes invalid if not used within 90 days of issue. Is this true?

my tourist eVisas always had a "Date of grant" and "Visa must be used by" date printed on them. I noticed that the approved DTV eVisas posted here don't have any "Visa must be used by" date, only "Valid from" and "Valid until".

Taking this into account, is there still a risk that a DTV eVisa becomes invalid if not used within 90 days of issue? Thank you!

1) you can show several bank statements from different accounts if they are all under your name. There is no need to have 500k in 1 account.

2) the length of the courses (Muai Thai) should be “3-6 months consecutively”(c).

I just got the email from Consulate.

show PROOF of your bank account STATEMENT with a balance of 500,000 Thai baht or equivalent currency.

A bank notarized monthly statement would be great if you possibly could get it from your bank.

NO proof needed of your flight departing Thailand.

that's an unknown question at this time. It's too new to know the answer. Sorry.

But it's entirely possible that Thai Immigration officers may ask for the current bank account statement showing the balances of 500,000 Thai baht or more.

There's no written rule at this time.

the visa FEE at the consulate is 10k (or what ever the consulate you're applying at charges (US charges 400USD, London charges 300GBP, Vietnam charges 340USD 😮)

Sources say the extension is the price of all extensions in thailand no matter the length of time they're issued for 1900baht, SO I would say that's probably what it really is

Make sure you GO to the website of the thai consulate you're applying for the DTV and READ the requirements carefully.

There is a LOT of disparity between them, especially when it comes to proof of banked money funds how long they require the funds in the bank etc.

Keep in mind this visa is not even 3 weeks old,

Many (in fact most) of the questions people are asking no one knows the answers to It's going to take you contacting the consulate or applying for the visa and see if they ask for more information or not.

Hi everyone :-)

I´m interested in changing my visa type from non-immi O to DTV..

Maybe someone here knows how to handle that specific problem:

Some years ago i made a non-immigrant O visa based on retirement, on which i have an active yearly extension until next year including a valid separate multiple re-entry permission. I´m usually staying in Thailand 6 months a year during winter season.

Right now i´m thinking about changing to the new DTV based on workation for saving a lot of time and money (for yearly extension and multiple re-entry) in the future... i have a 50% home-office job in Europe, working 100% in the 6 months in Europe allowing me to make holidays another 6 months :-) i don´t need to work from Thailand, but i could work remotely for some extra money....

I´m just outside Thailand, what will be the necessary steps?

Could i just apply for a DTV and then enter Thailand based on the new visa?

Or do i need to cancel my valid extension before? How to do that from Europe?

Or maybe enter Thailand on my valid extension, exiting shortly before expiration to Vietnam or Laos and try to do the DTV from there?

Could it be possible to do the eVisa with european embassy from overseas? Maybe even from Thailand and then just exit and re-enter after granting?

Your valuable help is pretty much appreciated, many thanks in advance

Kind regards,

Bo

Has anybody been successful in getting a DTV Visa down the "Thai Soft Powers" Route? If so what documents were accepted ? Could I in theory book a course of Dentist appointments and use this as the supporting Document ? What about Music Festivals what supporting documents could pass the mustard here. This visa seems far more attractive than a 1 year marriage or Retirment visa.

@Andy ****
I think you're right, from what we've seen so far embassies require proof of doing work in the way that you do work for others. So you can show an employer letter, portfolio, company registration or the like. As a day trader you wouldn't be able to show anything of that, except maybe a tax filing if you even do that. It's worth a question, but most embassies often don't really answer those in which case I wouldn't put $400 on the line. There are other categories of the DTV that you could aim for, like a cooking class even. How long it needs to be varies per embassy. So you are going to inquire anyways, perhaps include the acceptance criteria of what is called the 'soft power' category.

I sent a message to Vientiane embassy regarding DTV and using a Muay Thai school/class as a reason for application. I asked what is accepted as a qualification to receive the DTV. They said a 3-6 month course would be accepted from a certified school. I followed up by asking what a certified school is (registered with who/what). I have not gotten answer back.

Does anyone know what certification a school/class must have?

Hi guys. Question about the current bank statement : how to deal with it when you have to trabselate it from

Apologies if this has previousiously been asked. This is tax related.

If you're on the DTV and you EXTEND for the additional 180 DAYS, what are the tax implications on your foreign/remote working income for that year?

Doubt you're talking about comin' in on a real tourist visa (that you buy from a thai consulate before you come here) 😉 I think you're talking about comin' in on a visa exempt (free stamp) entry for 60 days.

they might not need that much, it might even be detrimental - call them and ask? FWIW, I've talked to the embassy here in Sweden to ask whether it is okay to provide a proof of employment letter and an internal company policy allowing me to work remotely (a 7-page document), and their reaction was like "oh, it's so much text, can't you just add a line "Konstantin is allowed to work remotely" to the letter?". I understand your situation is different, and it's a different embassy, but I reckon it's better to check first.

I spoke to our shippers on this last week - they said without a min 1 year Thai work permit you can still import household items but everything is potentially liable for 20% duty on the new replacement cost (whatever the Thai customs deem it to be, regardless of your receipts)- even old and used items are subject to duty.

But from reading other forums it depends on which person processes your paperwork as to how much duty is deemed due.

You might consider submitting these documents:

- Proof of Business Ownership: Show your business registration or similar papers.

- Proof of Activities: tax returns, bank statements, invoices etc. to show your earnings.

- Portfolio or Client Agreements: Provide a portfolio of your work or agreements with clients.

And perhaps you can contact the embassy directly for clarification.

Viel Erfolg!

You should prove that you fall under the "Workcation" subcategory for digital nomads, remote workers, foreign talents, and freelancers.

What you described is a business, but you can position yourself as engaging in "remote work." This can include self-employment, especially if you emphasize that you sell to clients remotely. If you have a brand, consider submitting any trademarks or related documents.

I found the FB page of "Muay Thai Fever" gym located in Chiang Mai here on FB, and they have posted several updates about DTV (they provide DTV for their members but they are not a visa mill school; they want you to be serious). Per their own words, embassies from neighbouring countries request additional documents from the gyms. They said so far Cambodia seemed to be the most(!) difficult. So I assume a school should have some certification/registration and be ready to deal with bureaucracy.

Just so we're totally clear people,

Most of the questions you people are asking no one knows the answers to yet because the visa is 9 days old.

Few people have been approved for it at this time. As far as I know NO ONE has entered the country on a DTV (that I could find) yet

Almost no one has applied at a nearby thai consulate yet either.

So while I understand you wanting to ask questions I just want you all to know, there are far more questions than answers right now 😕

Good luck in your DTV endeavors.

Successful Report from Phnom Penh (not me)

Documents:

Consulting contract with a Singaporean company, with an electronic signature, downloaded from deel com

Employment certificate from deel com, stating my position and salary.

Bank statement for the last 6 months (submitted on my own initiative and based on previous experience applying for a tourist visa).

Company extract from the Singaporean registry (submitted on my own initiative).

Interesting Points:

They immediately checked the account balance and said it should be $15,000; I had $14,000, so I had to provide a statement from another bank to reach the required amount.

I paid $400, in dollars.

FAQ:

Did not submit a document about the current location.

Bank statement from Wise USD account in English.

Employment certificate and work contract include my full salary.

The Thai Soft Power aspect is intriguing ...offering some specific examples buy also suitably vague ... is there really a cooking class that requires a 5 year visa? Can you get a 5 year visa by attending a 1 day cooking class, a 5 year visa to attend a 1 hour seminar?

Will be interesting to hear from experiences of people applying under the Soft Power option ...what is acceptable and what not.

Examples so far seem to be medical ...even that one, can you get a 5 year visa for a single medical appointment?

Or am I completely missunderstanding the category?

today I spoke with the director of my school (where I studied for my education visa) in Koh Phangan. She said she has spoken with officials at immigration here and in Bangkok, and said it's not clear yet about how this would work long term for the soft power option, for Thai cooking for example. She doesn't trust this option yet and recommended the education visa again until things are clearer. She was suggesting it might be necessary to sign up for a 180 day course initially, and again at each extension. Also Thai language is not an option for soft power, that I wanted to do.

Curious if anyone can share their experience of being successful with the soft power option at embassies in SE asia?

From what i have been told. Soft Power is meant for an extensive time frame of activity months not a day. Medical is also for prolonged medical treatment not one single day. The relative embassy will decide the length of time they consider acceptable,

It does differ via Embassy. Where i reside in Tokyo, the Thai Embassy does not accept a single appointment, even for the Digi nomad option must book 15 days hotel accommodation and show evidence of a paid ticket. It would be great if one appointment was needed everywhere.

well it's a 5 year visa, so I would imagine it'd be like the Elite or any other visa and they will transfer the visa to the new passport OR if you get an eVisa you'd show the eVisa PDF, the data page of your old passport and the new passport to show that they're linked

Ask the Thai Embassy or Consulate where you may apply for the DVT visa. Show PROOF of your working as a digital nomad from Thailand with clients outside of Thailand and payments made for your services. Read others who have been successful in getting the DVT visa... there are several who provided supporting documents to show they're doing digital nomad services.

Attaching the London embassy take on the DTV says 5 year multi entry for £300 and 180 days per entry.

Extension it says that it can be extended once for a further 180 days, then depart Thailand.

Re-enter and repeat.

No mention of extension costs, need to check that locally in Thailand.

On the attachment from Tod it says extendable once per stay, after 360 days must leave for at least one day and renter to reset for another 180+180 days, so in essence other than 1 day you can stay 360 days for 5 years. Understand about the TAX rules.

I think that's why the officers at Chaengwattana said 1900 baht because that's the price of an extension inside the country on ANY visa that was offered previously no matter the length of time the extension was issued for whether it was 7 days, 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, 1 year, 2 years 😮

I guess it remains to be seen how it works BUT that clearly says extend one time for not more than 180 days for 10k baht and after that it says you can change this DTV inside thailand to another visa type (like if you get a job, etc)

From what I read it's a five year multi entry visa with a maximum stay, just like the MTV, I don't read it says 10,000tb each year, you re-enter on the same visa until it's no longer valid, question is if you leave withing the 180 days and re-enter, what stamp will you get or will they deduct days used!

works like this

you enter get 180 days, you can take ONE 180 day extension for 10K inside the country, then after that 360 days in country you're done and you need to exit/re-enter to get a NEW 180 day stamp which you can also get one 180 day extension on for 10K. You repeat this for the 5 years the visa is good for

it is mostly for people using the eVisa system I would imagine, because a LOT of people try to "spoof" the system and are not IN their home country when they apply, SO the embassy wants to see that you are indeed there or allowed to be there by asking for that.

When you apply in person with a paper application (like at consulates around thailand in S/E Asia, you use the hotel address where you're staying as your address and your booking receipt proves you're there (if they ask for it)

- every 6 months you have to pay 10,000baht for the extension or how much does it cost?

- what does valid for 5 years mean? That for 5 years you can extend the visa every 6 months to immigration?

- every 6 months you have to show financial proof not under 500,000baht?

The DTV visa is valid for 5 years. You’ll need to prove 500K baht only when you apply for the visa. Visa fee is 10K baht.

The visa has multiple entries within 5 years, so every time you get stamped in within 5 years, you’ll get a 180 days stay. This can be extended one time with additional 180 days at your local immigration for 10K baht.

After you’ve stayed for 180 days and done one extension, you’ll need to leave Thailand and re-enter to get stamped back in for 180 days. This is the circle as we know it today.

there is some confusion (seeing as no one has entered the country on a DTV yet then exited/re-entered).

We know you get stamped in for 180 days when you enter initially, but we don't know IF you exit/re-enter you get stamped in for a NEW 180 days

OR

You get stamped in until the original 180day entry stamp expires.

We will have to wait and see how it works once people enter, get stamped in then exit/re-enter

You CANNOT get the visa while you're in thailand, you get it at thai embassies and consulates in other countries

IF you don't want to go back to OZ to get the DTV you need to start looking at nearby consulate websites and see what their requirements are what their processing time is, whether you need an appt to get in the gate, etc

It's interesting that the Thai Embassy in Moscow, along with other documents for obtaining a DTV (including a bank statement, of course), requires from "Workcation" applicants to provide a proof of INCOME (Russian tax return).

Are there other embassies/consulates that require income verification?

I was discussing this visa with some friends today. We were questioning if it means you can only spend 180 days in country each year or if it means you have to bounce out and then come in again for another 180 days. The wording is confusing. Does it mean you basically get a five year visa where you only need to leave the country every 6 months and can come back in again for six months?

Okay people there is some confusion about the extension, I am out at the main immigration office in Bangkok as we speak and have just spoken to the officers about the DTV Visa.

They said you get the visa at a Thai consulate/embassy outside the country, you enter the country and get 180 days, then you can come to the immigration office and get one 180 day extension.

In Bangkok you do that at the main immigration office at Chaengwattana.

The officer told me you do it in section j which is the section for tourist visa extensions and the extension cost 1,900 baht.

There are some documents floating around that show that the extension is 10,000 baht, but the two girls I spoke to, one at the main counter and one in section J said that is not correct the extensions are 1900.

So a stupid question: With this you can leave and enter as many times as you like (and will always get 180 days), correct? Like I would be spending significant time in Thailand for those 5 years but fly back to Germany to visit my family 2-3x per year, this would not be an issue at all?

You can apply at any Thai consulate that doesn't require residence. Generally, these are consulates that do not use the e-visa system, such as those in Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Malaysia. Just check if they are already issuing DTVs and review the requirements.

As long as your new passport starts before the date of expiration of your current one. What I did several times in Thailand, I applied for a new passport personally at the British Embassy. When they informed me I could go and collect it, I did and they cut the corner of my other passport, with my current visas in, then I went to any immigration office and they transferred visa to my new passport. Don't know today how you apply for a British passport in Thailand. I believe it has been farmed out to a private company. Don't know if that is true or not. I'd of thought for security reasons the Embassies, or consulates would be the only place that could process a new passport.

I've been in contact with the RTE here in Sweden. They want the employment letter/contract to state that I'm allowed to work remotely. the other information I got from them is that the processing times are the same as for TR1 (about a week), and that my wife would need to apply separately after I get my DTV, since she needs to attach my visa to her application.

I have my own company (US LLC). Do you think it's necessary to write myself a contract or is my annual report that states my name as being the owner and manager of the company enough?

Also I currently don't have a permanent address, what would I upload for point 3 (indication of current location)? I have been living nomadically for 2 years. Would something like a rental contract from the country I am staying at before coming to Thailand be something to upload here?

Hotel address. Make the contract. Visa fees are not refundable, in case the visa gets rejected. Other way: visit the embassy if that is possible and ask in person. However: that does not make you safe from what ever officer is doing the paper work is deciding.

What I mean: simple things like the contract, you should do. One risk less on the table to waste $400 for a rejected visa application.

For LTR possible within country, as well preferred to get the LTR stamp in Bangkok as I see... and they are really helpfull in email, they answered all my questions how to prepare documents and what I need to make sign with my employer (if they wish to sign, that is a bitter question now for next 2 weeks... or I go with DTV)

thanks I think half way that is it, as I give that address everywhere now already in case of "need", just as not having anything on my name, not any bill that is not really a proof. Europian proof of address the strict one is from governent a paper about whereabout addresses per time (like for has to prove legal procedures territory allignments, like marriage/divorce legality of addresses of the two person involved), soft version a bill: electric, phone, gas etc...

Maybe my Spotify bill is still on that address since 10+ years 😃 if accepted.

When I asked Thai visa from Swiss-Thai embassy, but for EU passport, then they accepted even to add my swiss ID card to prove they are the one who should handle the case...

I think I quickly ask out LTR or DTV till end of month to avoid issues living without address... I started collecting requirements for LTR, may move to DTV now...

and your point?

The way those requirements are written you either show a THAI bank account with 500K baht in it

OR

you show a US bank account with 16K USD in it, those are the requirements, consulates are free to set their own requirements

you also noticed that 400USD the cost of the visa is NOT 10K baht right?

It actually works out to about 14K baht

my point is simply that it’s strange. Most visas have an equal conversion. For example, the Spain digital nomad visa income requirements says either “x amount of euros” OR the equivalent in US dollars. Not just a completely different price.

yep as that's where the "consulates have the ability to set their requirements" comes into play.

Even the pricing of the DTV is skewed

USA, Burma & Cambodia 400USD

UK - 300GBP

Vietnam - 340USD

Lao - 10k baht

Malaysia - 1600ringgits

Singapore - 500 SGD

Indonesia - 5,600,000 IDR

As you can see, the pricing is ALL over the place 😛 and only Lao charges the actual 10K baht the visa was announced as costing

although the wording is slightly suboptimal, the paragraph where they address this has a header "extension of stay".
