TLDR : Answer Summary
The pound is currently rising against the Thai Baht, leading to discussions among expats about the economic implications. Various comments highlight concerns about the influence of US tariffs on the Thai economy, and the volatility of both currencies. Some expats report taking advantage of the peak exchange rates recently achieved. The conversation reveals a mix of optimism and skepticism regarding the stability of currency values in light of evolving global economic conditions.

Thailand had a $45 billion usd trade surplus from the US last year, while the US had a 36 billion trade deficit with Thailand. Thailand is coming to the table now Other countries will line up soon. the short term may get a little more expensive. But Thailand is already talking about investing more money in the USA🇺🇸

the tariffs aren’t based on reciprocity but on a formula based on the imbalance of trade between America and other countries. It ignores the service industry where America is dominant and misses the whole point of international trade which is that countries specialize in things they are good at.

Yes. Whatever Biden did, he was never setting up friends of America being against America. The current move is just sad and the American economy isn’t even going to benefit from this (on the contrary!).

The US is rapidly losing trust from its friends and that’s a sad thing. Trump is even mentioning that its NATO partners might use American weapons against America. The thought alone worries me. Which NATO country started wars in the last 50 years? None, except USA!

And now Trump is mentally preparing his country for wars against Canada, Mexico and the EU using the same rhetoric that Putin used before invading Ukraine. That’s a dangerous move.

yes, I understand that rates fluctuate.

I just asked doesn’t it mean when you get less baht for XY currency that means that baht is getting stronger.

If I get 35 baht for 1€ 3 months ago and today I get 38 baht per 1€ that means that baht is weaker.

Do you get it now? The baht is expected to get weaker through summer in Thailand. Then rebound possibly at the end of the year or early next year but no one knows. Right now it expected to eventually give more baht to the dollar as its value drops. Google this and read about it, it’s really easy. 🥹

if you look at a graph of the last 25 years you will see that mostly the rate for the £ now at 44.5 is less than at all times 2000-2016 then the Brexit disaster crashed the pound to around the levels it is now , briefly for a couple of years the rate was lower 2019-2020 then up and down around the 41-46 level since .

In conclusion since 2000 the £ rate is lower now than at most years , the baht is rarely weak and only briefly even then
