TLDR : Answer Summary
Terry Keen is seeking advice on the financial requirements for applying for a Non-O visa to return to Thailand after being interrupted by lockdowns. He asks if he can use 90-day insurance for the visa application or if 12-month insurance is necessary. Several commenters provide insights about the requirements, indicating that having appropriate health insurance and sufficient funds (800k THB requirement) are critical for visa processing. The discussion covers variations based on circumstances like retirement or family ties to Thai citizens.

IF you get a Non-O visa from a thai consulate in your country before you come here you will get stamped in for 90 days <- and that's the amount of time you need to be insured for (in fact if your policy is less than 90 days you'll only get stamped in for the length of the policy.

I'd say IF you can meet the proof of funds to get the visa/extension done inside the country come back on a single entry tourist visa and then do the conversion to first a 90 day Non-O and then a yearly extension at the immigration office

The reason I say that IS

IF you get a Non-O visa from the consulate before you come here you need 100K US dollars in covid insurance (an entry requirement) AND you need the 40K/400K out/in patient coverage for the Non-O visa too. Coming in on a tourist visa you only need the covid insurance,

what was your Non O retirement based on ?

Married to Thai?

Father of Thai child ?

Or as a retiree age 50+ ?

Three months of insurance is fine to enter on a new Non O.

And depending on what the purpose was for the Non O

The insurance requirements can be different.

Terry, I came in visa exempt in January 2020, converted to a 90-day Non-O based on retirement, and then did a year extension. There was no insurance requirement. If you are thinking of insurance, are the doing a Non-O-A? That does have an insurance requirement.

As for the financial requirements, I did a transfer into a Thai bank of the 800k baht a little more than 2 months before I did the year extension. That was sufficient aging before doing the extension.

Can't help you on that one. It's been 10 years since I did my visa at the embassy and that was in the US.
