How to get the most out of your year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on marriage.

This visa is currently available at three Thai consulates in S/E asia without the need for proof of funds. Those are the Thai consulates in Savannakhet Lao, Ho Chi Minh CIty and Seoul South Korea.

The requirements to get this visa for this reason are not extensive. You need; the original marriage certificate, copies of the marriage certificate, your thai wife's i/d & her house book listing along with copies of your passports relevant pages and a few passport sized photos.

The Thai consulate in Penang Malaysia will issue this visa but they require proof of 400K baht in a bank account (no seasoning required) OR the notary letter from your consulate stating you get over 40K baht a month in income.

This visa is a multiple entry visa meaning you can enter/exit the country as many times as you want during the validity of the visa (a year from the date it's issued) and you will be stamped in for 90 days. When that 90 days is running out you go to the border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country and stamp right back into thailand to get another 90 day stamp. You do this for the validity of the visa itself.

The way to maximize the time in country with this visa is to make sure your LAST entry on the visa is done just prior to the "enter before" or "valid until" date on the visa itself. This gets you one final 90 day stamp taking you to just about 15 months of stay.

Then you need to apply for the 60 day "visit family" extension at the immigration office for 1900baht. This extension does not require proof of financials to get. That will take you to 17 months on a single year long visa. ..

Good Luck.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To maximize your year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on marriage to a Thai citizen, focus on timing your entries strategically. Obtain the visa from specific consulates in Southeast Asia without needing proof of funds, and remember to make your last entry just before the visa's "enter before" date to secure an additional 90-day stay. Following that, you can apply for a 60-day family visit extension at an immigration office without financial proof, potentially allowing you to stay in Thailand for up to 17 months on a single visa.

Will the Mukdahan-Savannakhet bus stop at the consulate to drop and pick up passengers?
Jari ************
I guess they sell tickets at the Lao side of the bridge anyway.

If I’m not mistaken, the spouse needs to sign and date all documents that relate to him/her.

Tod,I have this visa and leave the Kingdom every 90 days with the next scheduled later this month. Is it possible for me to get a 60 day extension now based on my wife and family ,all Thai subjects,living here instead of leaving. I ask because I'll be leaving in July on business and if I could get a 60 day extension that would save me a trip.

@Tod ********
Meaning that I can avoid my regular upcoming 90 day border run by filing for a 60 day extension of stay now ? Will the extension of stay be 60 days from when I apply for it or 60 days from the date of stay currently in my passport. Visa expires in September. Thank you kindly Tod.

@Chris******
, remember that year-long, multi-entry Non-O from the consulates I mentioned is ONLY sold based on marriage to a thai, NOT because you're over 50. ;)

@Christopher **********
yes mate I retired 4 years ago and my previous. Visas based on marriage I got in UK since then looked at all the options available and this one is the best for me I like to do my 90 days at Mae Sai and travel to Savannakhet at my leisure. all at my own pace and it's enjoyable...long may it last...if not just go to plan B Ahaaaa
Christopher ***********
Thanks Terry! For those of us 50 plus who are married to a Thai and want to travel it is an alternative to retirement extensions. Potentially longer validity plus no financial requirement are definite bonuses!
Christopher ***********
Thank you for all that work
@Tod ********
! 17 months with only a few requirements and nothing financial whatsoever is certainly worth knowing about.

Okay, this topic is about a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa gotten based on marriage

It is not about extensions of stays, it is not about Non-O's for other reasons.

I wrote it to help people who get this visa maximize their stay on it.

Please keep on topic. If you have a question about an extension or something else make a new topic.

Thanx (y)

I second that. Helpful post. Big thanx.πŸ˜ƒ

But if for example a Filipina is married to a foreigner say from UK . THEN proof of income is required at Savannakhet.
Vincent *************
@Tod ********
when I spoke to Savannakhet Thai Embassy they told me that I would need to show proof of finances for her to get the Non O visa

Vincent, :O I stand corrected, :)

You can indeed get a single entry Non-O visa based on being married to a foreigner on a long term extension

BUT

once she got that visa she would be "piggybacking" on your extension.

AFAIK: there is no financial requirements for that,

YOU are the one that meets the requirements and the spouse gets a Non-O and extension that matches yours.

@Tod ********
i have a retirement extension here so my wife could get a non O from Savanakhet also Vientiane. Both require financial proof.

You can't get a Non-O visa based on marriage for TWO foreigners unless you're getting it based on the spouse being married to a foreigner legally works here with the correct visa and work permit.

That Non-O does NOT require financial proof either
Steven ******
Thank you very much
@Tod ********
i was about to ask this question. All clear now
Steven ***********
Regarding the letter of income from the embassy/consulate. How old/new does this have to be?

I already have the NON O visa. Just asking for future reference.
Robert *******
Income statement from Embassy is 6 months valid.

NOTE: This is NOT a yearly extension of stay that you get inside the country at the immigration office for 1900baht by showing the proof of financials and submitting the required documentation.

This visa requires you to exit/re-enter the country every 90 days

@James *****************
, you would need the marriage certificate(s), your wife's thai i/d, her house book listing, a receipt that you did a TM.30 form, a filled out TM.7 and that should do it.

Those things, 1900baht and a passport photo should do it.

report back if you can about how it went.

@Tod ********
What documents are needed to submit for the 60 day "family visit" extension? I know I need to fill in the TM25 form but do they require a photo and/or marriage certificate? (Samut Prakan Immigration)

ok thanks for your help

if you wait, you have to exit thailand to get it, but oz consulates may require the 400,000 baht in the bank
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
If the thai consulates in australia will sell it to you I'd get it there.

If not you can get it at the consulates I mentioned once you get here.
Sharlene ***************
can it also be applied to Non B multiple visa?
Sophie *******
This is great, thanks
@Tod ********
! I think my Non B is valid until 3 Jan so I can border bounce somewhere more exciting for new years rather than going to Penang for a new visa 😁 You're much more helpful than my lawyer πŸ˜‚

great, thanks!

Correct (y)

ANY Non-Immigrant Type visa no matter the class works the same way.

You could get 15 months out of one if you play the border-bounce dates correctly. :)
Scott **********
Seoul, interesting, so they only require the same as Savannakhet? nothing extra?
Bobby ****
Yea I had done savannakhet a few years back and I live in Chiang Rai so the trip was far and long. Got a r/t flight on air Asia for about 9000 baht to seoul. All things said and done I probably only spent a few extra thousand baht in seoul (a buddy of mine lives there so I had free housing) but it was well worth it and I would/will do it again
Scott **********
thats good i actually think it would take the same amount of time as you cant fly to savanakhet because the times dont get you there in time
Bobby ****
Went to Seoul and did it a few months ago. Was a breeze. In and out both times (drop off and pick up) within 2 minutes.
