Why are some visas from Chiang Mai and Hua Hin Immigration offices stamped until December 30?

ATTENTION MEMBERS:

"Close the loop" stamps from Chiang Mai and Hua Hin Immigration offices..

We are seeing some people who used the Chiang Mai and/or the Hua Hin immigration offices got under consideration stamps to get a 30 day embassy request extension get stamped in until Dec 30 when they go back to get the "loop closed".

At first we thought it was just a mistaken stamp (the ink roller wasn't set on Nov but Dec) but too many people are getting the stamp for that to have happened. At this time we don't know why they are getting stamped in until that date.

I am offering this out as a heads up only. I don't know why it is happening at ONLY those two immigration offices.

We don't know why they're doing to to SOME people but not others, we don't know why they aren't doing it to people who go back to get their stamp adjusted (those people are getting only until Nov 30).

Thank you everyone who tried to make a post with one of those stamps (sorry we declined it) I apologize..

TLDR : Answer Summary
Members have reported that the Chiang Mai and Hua Hin Immigration offices are issuing visa under consideration stamps valid until December 30. There is confusion regarding the criteria for receiving these extended stamps, as some individuals are being granted the extension while others only receive a stamp until November 30. Various community members share their experiences and queries about what documentation is needed for the immigration process and express skepticism about the validity of the December 30 date.

I got stamp today to stay by Dec 30th. I already share this earlier but you deleted my post because it was a mistake by chiangmal immigration office.

Wondering if I should go and see if they’ll add an extra month to my already stamped November 30 🤔
Ben *****
I would wait it out a bit, there's still plenty of time. :)

And I left sept 22 as I couldn’t afford to be banned from returning. 😞

you are very lucky because our European embassies still do not want to provide us with this letter, so far we will be on overstay on November 1.

TOD: "...immigration offices got under consideration stamps to get a 30 day embassy request extension"

My embassy letter did not specify a 30-day extension. It simply stated, "...wishes to apply for an appropriate visa or an extension of stay" - so getting an extension to Dec 30 (effectively getting a 60-day extension) is still logical and does not over-extend the embassy's request. FYI

the clause in the police order (2.28) that they are issuing extensions based on 'embassy request" specifically say extensions are for 30 days

@Tod ********
which does not contradict using the same letter for another 30 days extension but makes more confusion as they issue 60 days extension 🤔

When the Immigration staff (Promenada location) handed me back my passport, he specifically opened my passport to the page where it says, "DEC 30", and asked me with a reassuring smile, "Äre you happy now?". A lot of people got the Dec 30 extension and people were jumping up and down with joy...some were hugging, in full view of all the staff who were likewise smiling - so everybody knew the Dec 30 date. The Dec 30 extension wasn't one staff's oversight. If that date was still wrongly stamped, then it means an entire Immigration location together with all its staff are wrong - which is highly unlikely. My 2 cents. Thank you Tod, you guys are doing an incredible (and sometimes thankless) job.

, despite what might seem "official" (given that it has been checked by the Immigration Investigations Division), the Dec 30 date is still taken skeptically by people (even by close friends) who have stayed long enough in Thailand to know (and have suffered) the pitfalls. Experience being the best teacher, I take your counsel with weight and much appreciation.

I went to CW to get the same stamp yesterday. Immigration officer told me that if I come end of next week, they MIGHT start stamping until end of December. But I wanted to get the stamp anyway so got until 30 Nov.

I’m going on the 16th. I’ll update when I get a December stamp
Sarnai ************
That'll be cool, thank you! She said I could come back later if the decision is made to stamp until 30 Dec too.

Presumably this is a 60 day extension from 1 Nov, in line with what has been discussed in the media.

Good guess but it's not that because they applied for their extensions before the actual rule came into effect

Those were ALL under consideration stamps for 30 day embassy request extensions that were applied for well before any announcement of that mythical 60 day extension came about :(

@Tod ********
Sure, but I'd suggest that the new 60 day extensions have now been (partially) approved and so offices are beginning to roll them out to avoid having to call people back for a stamp change.

For those who have extended this October, can you please advise what to bring to the immigration? Do I need to online again and bring a new letter from my embassy? Thank you

Glad you owned up. You’re very quick to shut down comments maybe now you’ll let the group have a say too.....it is a group after all, peace

Thank You for your kind words. The Team is terrific IMHO 😊

Let me make it clear, I am very grateful for the knowledgeable information passed on by the moderators in this group. I try to only offer constructive criticism for you to consider. It has been frustrating to want to ask or post what I believe is relevant only to find a post quickly shut down. I do understand that posts can go off topic so I’m not arguing about that, in fact I’m all for running a tight ship. Just hoping for a little bit of flexibility.

and there was no "owning up"
@Ev**
. As soon as people started trying to post about those errant stamps I sent images of them to a contact in the Immigration Investigations Division to see if they were possibly stamped by mistake (which happens a LOT believe it or not)

The minute they got back to me saying the stamps were logged in the system with that date too (meaning it was a valid extension date) I wrote this post to let people know about it

We still don't know exactly WHY (and the lame excuses that the volunteers and the immigration officers gave people who did ask are just that "lame excuses" not real answers)

Hope I answered your questions to your satisfaction.. Feel free to message me if you have any more concerns :)

to be fair, people join up to a group that describes itself as "A group set up to help and advise members with questions about Visas or Extensions of Stay to stay inside Thailand. This help and advice can be given by all members with their own knowledge or experience." and yet more often than not become gagged when they offer advice based on their knowledge or experience. Perhaps change this description so that people don't feel misled and suppressed.

@Dominic ********
suppressed indeed

you bring up a valid point too
@Dominic ********
, but unfortunately what you experience at your immigration office might or might NOT be relevant to a person using a different office. There are over 70 immigration offices inside the country and it appears that each of them marches to the beat of their own drum and does what they want to. This is highlighted in these "close the loop" posts. Some people show up, get stamped to Nov 30, some to Dec 30, some get turned away and told to come back, it's so random, hit and miss that advice from what happened to you even at the SAME immigration office a poster is asking about might or might not be relevant :(
Dominic ****
@Tod ********
Indeed, so how to update the Group description? I'm guessing it was written when the group had ten members, not thousands. Perhaps "A group set up to help and advise members with questions about Visas or Extensions of Stay to stay inside Thailand. This help and advice can be given by all members with their own knowledge or experience. BUT you'll need to ask our permission to do so, AND we'll delete anything we disagree with" :D

Sadly it's not a "chew the fat", or "hold hands around the camp fire and sing Kumbayah" sort of group, Nor is it one where you can come and whine about the injustice of your perception of the immigration system as it is run by the thaiz :O

It is a group designed to disseminate correct and accurate information and while I appreciate the feed back I'll still shut threads once people have accurate information to their questions.

You want accurate and timely visa/extension advice this is the group BUT if you wanna chat, jaw-jack or chew the fat about a topic, go post on a group related to where you live in thailand.

ok thanks for the caps! The comments vanished, let’s put it that way. Pls take this feedback in the friendly spirit intended because there is a common sentiment here from many members who took the time to share their experiences. The information we who were in CM on that day (listening to the officers, showing each other out stamps) were providing was correct as you can see now. Grateful if you can appreciate the on topic contributions of the group. That’s all

several of us reported this was happening and our posts were deleted purely because you didn’t believe it. Rather than just deleting them PLEASE leave this information up and just have your say that you don’t believe it. It was factually correct and helpful visa information and you deleted it simply because you didn’t understand the situation. Please let this group exchange such information and feedback, there was nothing incorrect or malicious in those posts. They were polite and on topic. Thank you

your posts were NOT deleted. We just didn't let the posts go live. We have had the group on post preview for a good long while. I did copy all the images of the stamps people tried to post and I did send them to Immigration Investigation Division to try to get to the bottom of why some people got those stamps and some didn't.
Evan ********
@Tod ********
agree but to think others apart from the moderators don’t have any constructive ability bodes of authoritarianism
Steven ****************
@Evan *******
so what you trying to say about this situation as I didn't understand the post?
