TLDR : Answer Summary
Australian expats can now apply for a visa to Thailand through the eVisa website, eliminating the need to mail in passports. This update has generated excitement, with users inquiring about specifics regarding the eVisa, including whether it will be stamped in the passport upon arrival. It is confirmed that eVisas are not stamped but must be printed and shown with the passport at entry. There are concerns regarding availability for different visa types and users have noted problems with the eVisa application process. Further updates indicate that Thai consulates in Australia will transition to the eVisa system soon.

I also emailed the thai consulate in Wellington New Zealand because they now can be selected on the eVisa website but get the same error as the Aussie consulates do when you try to use it.

This was the answer I got from them

Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Robert ******
at least it lets you choose the country now, it just won't let you go past that ๐Ÿ™
Robert *******
@Tod ********
I just went to do one and you can't apply for a multi entry or even a single entry tourist visa via the evisa site. I dunno if it's a glitch in the system or they just ain't doing tourist evisas for kiwi's
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Robert ******
I think you didn't make a log in on the site, because I logged in, was able to say I'm kiwi in new zealand and got touirst visa with multi-entry choice no issue
Robert *******
@Tod ********
am logged into myaccount... but keeps coming up with the number of entries required is unavailable ... wven clicking in single entry says same thing
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Robert ******
you can't get multi-entry Non-O visas via the eVisa website for marriage or retirement

That stopped on ALL eVisa consulates a while back
Fabian *******
is there any list of countries from which you can apply for evisa?
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Fabian ******
nope, you make a log in for that site, pick your passport and then you pick the country you're in and it'll either give you a choice of embassies you can apply at IN that country via the eVisa site or it'll give you this notice
John *******
sorry for the dumb question but will this evisa be available for a 60 day tourist visa ?
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@John ******
ALL the visas offered to thailand are available on that program
Paul *********
Woohoo! โ€˜Straya years behind the rest of the world. As usual.

With e-visa, does the visa get inked into passport on first arrival to Thailand, or you just keep the pdf printed with your passport?
Wayne ********
@Alastair *******
from the US it does not get stamped in. Just print a copy folded up and keep it in your passport.
Dan *******
@Alastair *******
I keep the PDF copy paper clipped to the page that immigration stamps.
John ********
@Dan ******
why? You have it in your email as a backup in any case
Dan *******
@John *******
this is Thailandโ€ฆif you need to show it, having a hard copy is 1000% better than showing an email.

@Dan ******
Wise decision โœ…

I've never held a Thai e-visa but clearly, like the name implies, it's electronic. You only receive an entry stamp now. Even exit stamps are disappearing, assuming you use an autogate for exit at the main Suvarnabhumi airport. Land borders will for now continue stamping all passports.
Brandon ************
@Alastair *******
no visa is ever inked into your passport with evisa. The visa is a pdf that you print.

You'll still get an entry stamp with how long you have permission to stay though.
Stuart ********
@Brandon ***********
correct. You have to carry a printed pdf of the visa with you and show it at the same time you give your passport otherwise youโ€™ll be treated like a tourist and get 30 days. you get the usual stamp in your passport. Check the date is 90 days later before you leave immigration.
Alastair ********
@Brandon ***********
all my previous visas for Thailand have been applied at the embassy, and the visa was a sticker placed in my passport. My visa extensions inside Thailand were a stamp in the passport.

For comparison my e-visa for India I received a PDF with the visa details, and on entry to India I received 2 stamps in my passport; one the visa and one the entry on that day.

@Alastair *******
e visa is emailed to you as a PDF file you print it and show it with your passport at passport control when you stamp in, they write the visa type you enter on and then under it usually write 'E Visa' denoting there was no sticker

This is a 90 da Non-O single entry eVisa
Brandon ************
@Alastair *******
all of your previous Thai visas were not evisas. I've told you how it works.
Alastair ********
Thanks, very helpful news

that's what I was thinking ๐Ÿค”
