Re; 60 day unable to travel due to covid 19 extensions

I am getting a LOT of messages from people asking about a post on the Thai Visa - Nation News forum and what it really means.

To be fair, that was a totally wacky headline that has mislead a LOT of people as far as what it is saying. :/ BUT in T/V - N/N defense they did state correctly IN the post how the notice will work.

The government had come out with a notice stating that once amnesty ended (on Oct 31st) people would start applying for the "60 day unable to travel due to covid" extension and they could apply for those extensions up to Nov 30 (today).

This new notice says people can CONTINUE to apply for the "60 day unable to travel due to covid" extensions up until Jan 29th 2021. What that means is; from today until the 29th of Jan if you have an extension running out you can go apply for a new 60 day extension.

It does not mean that amnesty was extended (it was NOT),

It does not mean you get free time until Jan 29th (you do NOT), all

Hope that clears it up some.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thai government has announced an extension for applying for the '60 day unable to travel due to covid' visa extensions. Originally set to end on November 30, applicants can now apply until January 29, 2021. This extension does not alter the previous amnesty program, which has officially ended. Applicants need to follow the immigration office guidelines and should ensure they understand the 'under consideration' stamp process for extensions.

Could you post the original article please?

@Suz ******
I don't feel comfortable posting, because of how confusing the article was written. It was shared around a lot of Thai related groups on the internet.

Tell you what
@S**
I'll post the original THAI order stating that the time you're allowed to apply for 60 day extensions has been extended until Jan 29th.

That's what I sent to the Thai Visa - Nation News Forum group and what they wrote their article off of..

Got my 60 day stamp today (exp Jan 24), officer voluntarily said "you can extend one more time...", "only one time, next time will be the last...". I asked a couple repetitive, confirming type questions, he assured me yes, come back before Jan.24 and you can extend again. Too long story short, this post helps clear some confusion even though my info was straight from immigration. Thank you!

Fair enough
@Benjamin *****
, I appreciate your advice!

Thanks again

@Jamie ********
Don't go on overstay, it's not something I recomend

yep, the most recent police order notice that went out to the immigration offices has Jan 29th as the last day you can apply for a 60 day unable to travel extension

People you guys need to READ the stamps you get in your passport.

MOST immigration offices are issuing an "under consideration" stamp when you first apply for the 60 day can't travel extension (it's usually for 14 days) You show up on that date just like the stamp tells you to. You don't go before, you don't go after..

They'll ink in the rest of the 60 day extension on that date. You need nothing but your passport, and take that blue green receipt showing you paid 1900baht if you have it.

went today (actually went yesterday but they said too many people and had to pay 1 day overstay, yeah I know!!) paid 1900 +500 and got till the 28th Dec and told to come back on that day for the rest, was I the only one like this or did everyone else get the full 60 days?
Benjamin ******
@Alan *********
That's very common. If you look at your passport, you should see an "under consideration" stamp. Just return and you'll get the rest of the time.

Does it need a letter from Embassy to support the application?
Kent *****
Thanks Tod, it’s crystal clear now.

@Kent ****
we are telling people:

IF your embassy issues the letter get it..

IF they don't either print the email saying they don't issue it OR do a screen grab of the website stating they stopped issuing it

Thank you,
@Tod ********
, now everything became absolutely clear!

What do you need to apply for this?
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Chris *******
, it's immigration office specific, either GO to your immigration office and ask before you need the extension or post on a f/b page related to where you live in thailand; believe me you're not the only foreigner applying for that extension
John ********
Is the 60 days added to the date of stamp in passport or is it 60 days after you are approved?
Matthew ********
How about MTT? Are they doing it 30 days from the date of expiration?
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@John *******
That is immigration office specific, SOME are tacking the new extension on to your expiration and some are starting the extension the date you apply. I'd go with the date you apply so apply when this extension is running down.

@Tod ********
just got mine today and they considered it from the day I applied (18th) and not from the 30th (today), which is not what I expected. Would love to hear how it went for others

@Remus *****
, what office was that? It means they are doing it from the date you apply for the extension NOT from the date your current stamp runs out.

That seems to be what most offices are doing.
Remus ******
@Tod ********
phuket town. Another friend of mine got the same stamp, but I was wondering if others had different experiences.
Ayla ***************
@Remus *****
same: phuket office: 60 days from date of application not date of existing extension expiry.

This is not a catch-all question thread. If your question/ comment is not related to the Thai Visa - Nation News forum article that's been going around the internet, please make your own post.
