What should expats on COVID visa extensions do when their stamp runs out?

ATTENTION MEMBERS ON MULTIPLE COVID EXTENSIONS WHO HAVE TO EXIT/RE-ENTER WHEN THEIR STAMP RUNS OUT

I got a LOT of DM's from people who have been here an extended amount of time on covid extensions (some who have been here since Jan 2020 :O ) who are now panicking because they have to exit the country when their stamp runs out.

Now I have no problem with people who took advantage of these extensions as a way to further their stay in thailand and good on you guyz/gurlz for doing it (y),

BUT

The fact is the covid extension program ended Wednesday the 24th, and that means anyone ON a covid extension has until their current stamp runs out to exit the country.

Most want to exit/re-enter <- AND that's where the problem(s) can occur..

There are MULTIPLE reports of people who tried to bounce out and in by air with a passport full of covid extensions (especially using Don Mueang and/or Suvaranbhumi) being denied entry :O Those people were denied even with proof of funds, proof of onward travel and proof of lodging :/ Most were sent back to where they flew in from but some of them were actually sent back to country of passport origin :(

We don't have the answer on how you can bounce out and back trouble free.

Perhaps GO to a nearby thai consulate and buy a tourist visa, then cross in to thailand by a land border <- at least that way IF you're denied entry you just get sent back to the country you stamped out of NOT shipped out by air like when you fly in and are denied.

Another option is to use a visa run company that will run you to the border to get a new visa exempt entry <- usually safer than going on your own because those companies 'grease the wheels at the border' and you won't have problems getting stamped back in

Yet another option if you're going to fly in is to look around for "express entry" or "fast track service". Many of the visa agencies offer this service

One thing to remember when you enter thailand, you can be asked for the "3-proofz" when you go to stamp in (by air OR land) and those are

- proof of funds; 20K baht in CASH or the equivalent

- proof of onward travel; within the number of days you'll get stamped in for

- proof of lodging; for the time you'll be stamped in for (although they usually accept a hotel booking for a couple days)

IF you're asked and you cannot provide those things it can be grounds for denial of entry. Also I realize many people have entered thailand multiple times and never been asked for any of these, BUT that does not negate that there is a law stating you need those when you stamp in if you're asked.

So to recap, if you got a passport full of covid extensions and need to exit/re-enter;

- get a tourist visa from a thai consulate

- enter by land to lessen the impact of denial of entry

- use an airport OTHER than Don Mueang / Suvarnabhumi

- have the 3-proofz on hand

- use a visa run company to bounce out/back

- use fast track or express entry at the airport

Good luck one and all, you had a good run on covid extensions, but alas, all good things come to an end. Take care, (y)

TLDR : Answer Summary
With the recent end of the COVID extension program in Thailand, many expats are concerned about what to do when their visa stamps expire. It is crucial for those on COVID extensions to exit Thailand before their stamps run out or face denial of re-entry. Recommendations include obtaining a tourist visa from a Thai consulate, entering through land borders to reduce risks, and ensuring all entry requirements (three proofs: funds, onward travel, and lodging) are met. Additionally, utilizing visa run companies and fast-track services may help streamline the process. Care should be taken as historical entry issues may arise due to previous COVID extensions in passports.

I have a passport full of covid visa extensions .

I have been out and in Thailand two times from Malaysia 🇲🇾 with a working visa recently

They will look at your passport for a long time as Tod Daniels says even if you have changed your visa status .

I have been approved entry but it is not a pleasant experience to be singled out and checked for a long time compared to others .

The Covid extensions grab their attention in the system

On Wednesday Immigration at BKK told my wife she needs to get a visa next time. They did give her 30 days stamp.

Once again a wealth of information for those that need to know - cheers Tod.

So what's the reason they stamp in your passport when you have all the requirements? Can appeal to a judge or something?

, the appeals process on a denial of entry takes 3 working days, SO if you want to sit in lock up at the airport while you file an appeal and it winds its way thru the system you can. Most people sign the paper right when they're denied entry and that means you're done, you are not allowed in and you're going to be sent out

the denial of entry stamp usually says ไม่มีปัจจัยยังชีพ <- "no visible means of support" (and they put that even IF you had the proof of funds) but I saw a recent one that said that and also had english written on it saying "Visa Runner" 😮

At land borders there usually is no appeals process you just get turned around and sent back to the country you just stamped out of.

Being denied entry doesn't mean you can't go to a different border, or fly into a different airport and try to enter again, it just means that try to enter failed. It's not a deporting <- because to be deported you have to stamp IN to thailand 😛 ) it's just you didn't get in on that try 😉

LISTEN UP PEOPLE;

what I don't want is a bunch of comments by people recommending under the table/back door, b/s stuff.

I will mute and boot people who start doing that.

That is WAY beyond the purview of this group.

You wanna find those back door, under the table, b/s ways to do things this group is NOT for you. post on a group related to where you stay in thailand. You'll get recommendations a plenty.

we are gonna see the resurgence of border bouncing and visa running here as people start running out of covid extensions and I just wanted people to know what their options could be.

I think we'll start getting more reports from consulates, and borders here in a few more weeks as far as which ones are "soft touch" and which ones are "not user friendly" 😛

A new passport may also help.

as Tod said. That Old trick is being phased out by the New Thai immigration software... links old passport to your New passport... along with facial recognition and fingerprints.

MAY being the operative word in your comment 😉

it will only stop casual scrutiny, and only if you get a new passport while you're out of thailand.

Plus the system they have at all entry points now searches by name, surname, dob, passport number, country of origin and at the push of a button they can show all your entry and stay history here.

That old trick is slowing being made invalid by technology 😛 😉

Before anyone asks, the land borders with Burma are still CLOSED to foreigners wanting to stamp in/out and back into thailand.

That means for you people up in Chiang Mai/Rai who used to bounce at Mae Sai/Tachileik you can't and the closest land crossing for you people is the Chiang Khong/Huay Xai border with Lao in Chiang Rai Province. That also means for you people in central thailand that you can't bounce out and back at the Phu Nam Ron border with Burma in Kanchanaburi province either. And for you people in the south you can't use the Andaman Club boat bounce to Burma either

You can use the land borders with Cambodia, Lao or Malaysia. Those countries are open.

Make SURE you meet the entry requirements to get IN to those countries if you're going to bounce out and back at one.
