Should Tod Daniels stay as a moderator in the Thai Visa Advice group?

We are closing the poll, these were the final results.

Has this malcontent offered to take over the job of being the moderator?? (I doubt it). Like most things on the internet, its easy to be anonymous hater while giving nothing back. If he has problems with this (or any) group, he should just leave the group and leave the majority to enjoy in peace.

It is such a tough job you and your colleagues do to continually answer the same questions about an ever changing system. I appreciate that I can submit questions and can expect quality responses.

Unfortunately the world has to suffer the fools that get their cheap thrills while hiding behind an anonymous keyboard.

I don’t need a visa, but if I did and was foreign I certainly would take your advise over immigration as their advise is often different depending on who you talk to. Plus understanding them for a foreigner can also be confusing. You should continue with your service many people rely on you. In regard to deleting off topic posts, your the moderator are you not?

I am immensely grateful to this Group & Tod specifically. I have managed with their advice to get myself correctly visaed for long term stays in Thailand. I could have not done it without them Tod MUST stay.

Todd, you have been so helpful and informative to us I would hate for you to step down. The job of coordinator must surely be a tough one with lots of work and effort involved. You have helped me and numerous members of the group and anyone taking over from you wouldn't have it easy either.

From what I see there are 22 from over 3000 who should be removed from the group. These 22 do not want clear and informative advice and would actually prefer mixed messaging and posts and comments to become a rabble. If you, Tod Daniels, were to leave and set up your own group, this group would have literally 22 members and the 3k would join your group. That is the reality of the situation. This post and vote must be to bring some humour to this group. There is no way Tod Daniels can be removed as a moderator. His advice is second to none and his patience, with repeated questions, is exceptional. ANY person who harasses another should be removed and NEVER allowed back. Also, if they don't accept Tod's advice or moderation of the group, there is nothing to prevent them from going elsewhere and hopefully paying for the advice. Nobody has the 'right' to be a member and the group would be a better place if the other person was removed.

Anyone who says remove Tod from moderating this group, should leave the group and get poor confusing advice from one of the other visa advice groups. Easy decision.

I am floored that there would be any question about you going other than when you decide that you have had enough and decided to move on.

Your advice is always to the point and accurate. To get the same quality advice outside of the group would cost real money.

Any advice you give is as accurate as is possible and when you don't know you say so.

Tod and you know about it all the time people say I will send you to the police or immigration and bla bla, first for the police to go to your house they need a case for that and they need to open the case and do the investigation(long time and need to be a strong information) to see if you are doing something not correct, besides immigration doesn't care because you have your visa, deported you need to be processed like a criminal and for that is the case, then is only threats and crazy people without strong knowledge then you can just laugh on them 😉

I’ve had 2 posts rejected and my eyes are still rolling in bewilderment as to why they weren’t accepted. There was nothing contentious or provocative about either and on both occasions I was told for some obscure reason which I don’t recall as to why they weren’t posted. Don’t recall the moderator but I think it was pretty poor form you did not allow me to post. They were, I believe, legitimate and fairly straightforward requests for help from members on this forum.

I believe we need a shake up the moderators free hand to discount and reject such posts. There was absolutely nothing to prevent posts be accepted.

Keeping a group “clean” is a difficult task, that you are handling well. I got some posts removed by the group admins too, I wasn’t happy about it but in the end there was always a reason and the benefit I got in this group is by far larger than my occasional disappointment. This group has grown significantly so just like any other platform it will inevitably attract some bad apples and inevitably also have some issues where moderators might be little harsh or sound harsh even when that’s not the intention.

If it comes to this message, the harassment must be pretty bad and you could consider reporting said group member to the police instead. Because online harassment is actually a real thing, and many countries now have laws addressing it. Threatening to send police to your house over removing a comment in a private community group of a private, commercial, non-Thai platform is just laughable and I would gladly entertain the police with a cup of tea if they’d come by.

It's a shame some fool (who I have no doubt deserved to be squashed, and is probably a nut job anyway) has put you in an uncomfortable situation. I've been an active member of this group for around 6 months now.. and have found Tod's input invaluable to my visa journey.. people seem to forget that this is free advice being provided by volunteers.. if you want the right to complain or demand some sort of redress then go and pay a lawyer for the advice you need.. or go and pay an agent tens of thousands of baht.. then you can claim the right to opine the service you received and level criticism at the value of it.. when you are offered 'free help' you can take it or leave it.. on the understanding there is no contract for services.. if you don't trust the advice or feel you know better then it is your perogative to dismiss it.. you can go elsewhere or perish the thought you can open your wallet.. i suggest anyone that has an issue with the running of this channel leaves the group.. since continuing membership only serves to contradict the stated grievance.. imo it's acceptable to let the group know why you feel the need to withdraw your support.. but not to single out any one administrator for criticism.. it's run by a team and that team should take collective responsibility for any errors or mistakes.. as well as the credit for the praise that comes their way.. and the appointment or removal of administrators is an internal matter for them to handle.. this is not a co-operative and as members we are not shareholders with the right to vote.. Tod's pride has no doubt been hurt by the criticism he has faced and this has led him to question his worth to the membership.. but he has no reason for self-incrimination and this poll is completely unnecessary.. from what ive seen, his contribution has been essential to the development and success of this channel and will continue to be so.. you also have to take some perspective here.. there have been thousands (maybe tens of thousands) of very grateful and very appreciative members.. and you suddenly get one isolated 'complainant' who feels they have been badly advised or badly treated.. Here's the thing though, there is nothing stopping them from making their own group to run as they believe it should be run. Fact here, many of us have gotten really good advice in this group. I haven't been a member of the group for very long but have found that any comments I have seen, you have been a great source of knowledge and very helpful to everyone who has posted a question.

I have been in Thailand for a long time and still find the complexity of the various visas daunting and at times difficult to understand. Since finding this group, and seeing the array of answers provided, apart from now realizing just how complex it is, but having someone give a straight answer promptly and in detail has been invaluable.

Please keep up the good work and ignore the time wasters who have nothing better to do.

I can’t imagine who would go through such lengths to discredit you and also make threats, sounds almost personal and not Thai visa related and for those who voted to remove you I can only guess they took your advice incorrectly. And by the way this forum is only advice it’s not law or mandatory. It’s up to each individual to verify or disprove advice and make sure they are following thai law. It’s not anyone’s fault but their own if something didn’t go as planned are advised . Take responsibility for your own actions. Todd’s advice is always objective and usually correct but as some of us experienced Thai immigration is not equal in all locations, what may work in one location may not in another. , I am very big on constructive criticism is how we grow and get better. It’s great to see everyone praising you for the great job you have done! You have even helped me personally on several occasions and I am very grateful! 🙏🏼 But I think it could be helpful to point out a few things I have noticed over the years for you to possibly take into consideration.

- Sometimes your posts can be so direct that it comes off a little bit “high horse”. Like I know more than you, thus I’m better than you. I think some of that is due to the fact that we are a very diverse multicultural group. So we are all used to talking to each other differently. I can at least understand why some people might feel slightly insulted by some of the directness. Me personally I think it just comes from the fact that you are forced to answer a lot of the same questions over and over and over again. That would wear anyone down! But I don’t think new members are going to understand that.

- Sometimes the thread locking can seem a bit aggressive and uncalled for. I understand most of the time it’s because you don’t want misinformation in a thread AFTER a clear answer has been given. But sometimes there are more examples of experiences within the community that could prove useful. I personally had one locked years ago before a trip to immigration. I tried to come back to it after my trip to update my real would experience and I couldn’t. Some of the best info I’ve gotten on here was community members sharing direct experiences. So when so many threads get locked, sometimes it comes off as “Tod has spoken, so nobody else needs to talk.” Or a little bit like a power trip of some kind. Again, I think I understand the reasons it’s done, I’m just saying I also somewhat understand the occasional frustration about it. I’ve seen it discussed in other groups even. It takes away from the community aspect of it I think.



All that being said I voted yes stay obviously. 😇 You’re a great wealth of Thailand knowledge and your willingness to take time out of your life, and it’s a lot of time, to share with us makes our lives easier and much better. Unfortunately there is no way to prevent sociopaths from a group forum website .There are many “walking wounded” out there and no shortage of broken people.
