ATTENTION MEMBERS:

The thai consulate in Penang will be closed starting April 2nd.

They are moving buildings and will re-open shortly. It is NOT a permanent closure but there is no definite date set for them to re-open. They estimate 4 or 5 days at the longest.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thai consulate in Penang will temporarily close starting April 2nd due to a relocation, with an estimated reopening within 4 to 5 days. The announcement has caused confusion among expats regarding the exact closure period, with agents providing varying estimates. Concerns were raised about the timing of the notice, as many may be unaware of the closure and incur costs related to travel and accommodations. Expats are advised to stay informed about the reopening date, which depends on the success of the relocation.

Thanks for the advice. I've been travelling to SE Asia and working and coming here since 1997. A careful reader would notice that I said, "complaining is like peeing into the wind in Thailand so..."

@Ja***
, you are correct. :(

I would imagine they knew about this move WAY in advance of this notice, and they could have done a better job getting the word out than they did. >:(

Plus it's not even on their main website page it's on their F/B page and who looks at that? :O

yes but due to the rather obscure method of putting this notice out, how many people will miss this and travel anyway? And how many will lose money on a hotel (like me) etc etc. Oh well, complaining is like peeing into the wind in Thailand so...

The most trustable info is that they should finish moving all furniture and machines on Monday 2nd evening. Only then they can check if informatic system is ok, then could open on 3rd or at the latest on 4th.

In case of persisting problems with informatic system, office closing time could be longer...

Tod, Penang Consulate today is still closed and they will only confirm later if tomorrow opens.

After tomorrow, 5th April it should be open 100% (or better say 99%)

The true is that nobody can say nothing sure now. During the weekend they move their office, monday keep closed to check all machines and informatic system is working. If all is ok, they promptly communicate to re-open on tuesday, at the latest on wednesday, I think.

99% thursday is open.

I will re-confirm next monday as soon i have news

Tod, the estimate closing period 4-5 days comes from official source (Consulate itself)?

Because different agents in Penang are talking about different closing time: someone says 1-2 days, someone says 3 days.
