ATTENTION: members who recently entered on a "regular" tourist visa and were stamped in for 60 days.
There is some discrepancy between immigration offices as far as the extension that people on NEW 60 day tourist visa stamps can get.
In BANGKOK, they are telling people you can get the 30 day 'normal' extension and it will start the date your current entry stamp runs out OR you can apply for a 60 day 'covid' extension and it will start the day you apply.
Reports from other immigration offices by people on new 60 day tourist visa stamps are that the office was issuing the 60 day 'covid' extension without any problems at all and not even asking if the people wanted the 'normal' 30 day extension.
SO it's gonna come down to the immigration office you use and the officer you're sitting in front of. I wouldn't trust reports from xxx office if you're going to yyyy office
AND
remember this is JUST for new entries on "regular" tourist visas where people have gotten stamped in for 60 days, gone thru ASQ and are now wanting an extension.
Good luck, take care, stay safe
TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent updates regarding extensions for new 60-day tourist visas in Thailand indicate discrepancies between immigration offices. In Bangkok, applicants can choose between a 30-day normal extension or a 60-day Covid extension, with the latter starting on the application date. Conversely, other immigration offices have granted the 60-day extension without offering the 30-day option. It's essential for applicants to be aware that policies can vary significantly depending on the office and the officer handling their case.
