TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is inquiring about the process to change their Non-B visa to a Tourist visa after their work permit has expired. Responses clarify that one cannot directly change a Non-B visa to a Tourist visa within Thailand, but they can cancel their Non-B visa and apply for a COVID extension if specific requirements are met. However, since their work permit has expired, they are already in overstay, accumulating fines.

Sadly for you,
@Jen***
you started overstaying the day your work permit expired no matter WHAT the stamp said in your passport said as far as how long you can stay :O The minute you stop meeting the requirements for your extension (like letting a work permit expire) is the second the extension becomes invalid.

SO that means IF your work permit ran out on March 8th you have an overstay of 42 days as of today which means a 20K baht fine.

Take
@Benj****
's advice and GO to the immigration office NOW..

Sadly, there is no such thing as "change a Non-B to a tourist visa". You buy tourist visas at a thai consulate in another country you don't get them inside thailand.

You can however, cancel a Non-B extension and then apply for a 60 day covid extension

You need a letter from your employer stating you stopped work, you need proof you cancelled your work permit (letting it expire is NOT cancelling it) and then you go to the immigration office, cancel your extension and immediately apply for a 60 day covid extension.

Note; if you're on an extension of stay based on employment it stopped the day your work permit expired (when you no longer met the extension requirements) so you would be on overstay from that date until you actually cancel your extension of stay at the immigration office and liable for 500 baht a day fines.

hi thanks for your advice 1 more question my work permit was expired last March 8 and my non b visa will expired on may 12.what I'm going to do with my work permit I still need to go there and cancel it even though it's expired already?

>my work permit was expired last March 8

Normally, your extension of stay based on employment is cancelled the same day your work permit expires :O I would not be surprised if you are on overstay.

The overstay fine is 500THB a day, with a maximum of 20K THB. After 90 days you'll be blacklisted.

I suggest going to your local labor department tomorrow and confirm the work permit is cancelled like it should have. Then, go to the immigration office and request a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19. I would expect a fine of 500 THB a day for overstay.

Different immigration offices have different requirements for the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, but all require the following:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms)

4. A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR a print out from your embassy saying they don’t issue the letters.

5. 2x passport pictures

6. 1,900 THB.

Different immigration offices have different policies. *SOME* may require:

- The ID card of the property owner where you are staying

- Copies of *ALL* stamped pages in your passport
