Once you get your visa, you will usually receive a small paper to inform you about reporting for 90 days stay in the Kingdom. You can do it online. Bangkok immigration link only allows 15 days before the reporting date. Some provincial immigration offices can be done in few days before the reporting date. You will have. 7 days grace period after the reporting date which you have to do onsite.

Scott Cassio as far as I've read there is still no real clarity around all the taxes and what is going to happen. A lot of speculation but that's it.

As for the name of the group , it is a DTV group and the lady was happy to get the DTV visa , it could be for several reasons... So commenting about tax on this particular post doesn't make sense .

The biggest drawback of this Visa is that it is still classed as a Tourist Visa. That means you can't legally open a bank account. You can't get a residency certificate so you can't buy a car or motorbike. You can't get a Drivers license. Before you jump down my throat, note I said "legally".

you are (partially) correct only on case of opening bank account, on DTV it is hard, yes, but not impossible.

residence, driving licence, buying car/motorbike - there is no problems even with normal, 60+30 day, tourist Visa

Other countries try to make it look like we are welcome and shaft us harder ...so I am at peace with how the Thais treat us ...and to be fair we are absolutely shafting them with the way prices are rising due to the rise in foreigners and demands they are making in the markets . You cannot stay on that Visa for 5 Years.

You can stay 180 Days per Year and I believe 1x you can Extend by another 180 Days. So you will need to leave Thailand in between long Visits for 180 Days or so.

That's what I understand this Visa is providing. Happy to learn if that is not true.

I think there is some confusion here. The DTV does not allow you to stay in Thailand for 5 years. It is valid for 5 years there is a difference. You can stay for 180 days per entry and can extend it once for a total of 360 days within that 5 year period.

Graham Lynch correct, there is some confusion here, but you are the one confused. Multi entry visa, valid for 5 years, 180 days per entry. You can exit and enter Thailand every 180 days and get a new fresh 180 days for 5 years, as many times as you like.

Graham Lynch Yes, but as of now, to my understanding, there is no limit on the number of times you can re-enter Thailand during the 5-year period. So as long as you leave every 180 days, you essentially can stay in Thailand for 5 years, with a few border runs thrown in.

Dean Russell Doubt you can live for 5 years on visa exemption working online. Could do for several months but not for years. Better to work legally long term for 10, 000 THB. than risk long term ban/fine. 10, 000 THB over 5 years is CHEAP.

Maybe those clearly living a tax free life as digital nomads will be swept up in the Thai tax net as most want to stay more than 180 days a financial year. Different for soft power DTV holders if not making money here or OS plus taxed outside Thailand.

 Of course you get taxed twice. You probably meant to say that you can get a Tax Credit on the Tax already paid in the other Country.

You still will need to file a Tax Return in Thailand and declare your assessable Income.

Filing a Tax Return does not automatically mean you need to pay Tax in Thailand. That is what the Tax Return is for....to find out if you owe Tax in Thailand or not.

 You do not have to file a tax return if you stay under 6 months. If you do file, tax can be reduced via business expenses and dual tax regulations, The first filing for many if they have to would be 2026.

 depends on what country you’re from and who is paying out the pension. If you’re from the USA and your pension is from an US government agency or department, the Thai government has an exemption for that. They don’t tax government pensions.

Sebastien Pi It's actually not a new rule. It just wasn't enforced so far. All foreigners who stay in the Kingdom for more than 180 days in a calendar year will have to pay taxes for their income, including pensions, for the year 2024. No exceptions for Americans.

 There is no income requirement for the DTV - there is a capital requirement of 500k THB for the visa. You can have a comfortable life in Thailand for 3k USD in the vast majority of places and lifestyles unless you are going to Hi-So 600 THB a cocktail bars each night :-)

 That's sufficient. There's no specific minimum salary required, but anything from around USD 800 and above seems to be fine. The most important thing is the 500,000 THB in your account though.
