TLDR : Answer Summary
The 60-day COVID extension program in Thailand has been extended until November 26, 2021, allowing individuals whose stamps are expiring after September 27 to apply without urgent visits to the immigration office. Key points include the ability for anyone to apply, with varying application times depending on the immigration office. Required documents include a passport, copies of relevant pages, a TM30 form, a fee of 1,900 THB, and in some cases, additional requirements like proof of accommodation ownership. It’s important to check with local immigration offices for specific requirements and policies.

Ok people, this is NOT going to be a catch-all "congratulations" post, or "does this extension of stay apply to me" post. Here's the Frequently Asked Questions about this 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.

A. ANYONE can apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19. AT MOST IMMIGRATION OFFICES, if it is the first 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, it begins on the day you apply (and is NOT added on to the current extension of stay).

B. WHEN You can apply for an extension of stay depends on the immigration office. SOME allow 45 days (Bangkok and the surrounding areas, Chiang Mai, Phuket, etc), others allow 30 days. ASK the immigration office.

C. What are the requirements to submit for this extension of stay?

Different immigration offices have different requirements, but all require the following:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms, and want to use their special forms)

4. [Generally not asked at Bangkok immigration] A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR a print out from your embassy website saying they don’t issue the letters, OR a print out of a letter from the embassy saying they don't issue those letters.

5. 2x passport pictures

6. 1,900 THB.

Different immigration offices have different policies. *SOME* may require:

- The ID card of the property owner where you are staying

- Copies of *ALL* stamped pages in your passport

D. Is a 90 day report needed if you go on this extension of stay? ASK your immigration office.

E. Is this an optional extension of stay? Yes it is. An immigration officer does NOT have to agree to issue this extension of stay, however I have not seen any formal "7 day extension of stay denied" stamps for people who apply for this extension of stay.

F. "Can I get this extension of stay if I'm on a 90 STV visa that was really badly planned?". ASK your local immigration office.

G. "Can I work on this extension of stay"? No, you can not work legally on this extension of stay.

H. "Can I go from a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 to a one year extension of stay based on employment?". Ask your local immigration office.

I. "Can I go from a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 to a one year extension of stay based on marriage?". For most immigration offices, yes.

This means if you have a stamp running out AFTER the 27th of Sept there is no need to race over to the immigration office and get a new extension by Monday 🙂
