Can you get an extension if entering by land as 30 day exempt (without SETV/METV visa)?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can get a 30-day extension at the immigration office for 1900 baht if you entered Thailand under the 30-day visa exemption, regardless of how you entered the country. Alternatively, some suggest obtaining a 60-day tourist visa first, then extending it for another 30 days, and afterward entering again on a 30-day visa exemption to extend once more.

Why not get your 60 day tourist visa THEN extend that by 30 days at the immigration office in Chiang Mai for 1900baht,

THEN go get a 30 day visa exempt entry and extend that for 30 days at the immigration office for 1900baht as well?

Depending on your nationality, you can indeed get a 30 day extension at the immigration office for 1900baht while on a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp.

The way you entered the country doesn't matter at all.
