Paul Bush posted in another thread;

I had a one year extension in Thailand for my non o visa based on retirement from the UK. I lost it because I left Thailand without a re entry stamp. Now I'm here on a 30 day visa exempt entry.

I would like to get an non o visa in Savannakhet and later get an extension for one year in Thailand based on retirement.

What will be the procedure in Savannakhet and what are the requirements.

I have a bankbook from a Thai bank no return ticket and I have a U K passport. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
Paul Bush is inquiring about the procedure and requirements for obtaining a Non-O visa in Savannakhet, Thailand, based on retirement from the UK, after losing his previous extension due to not having a re-entry stamp. Commenters provide insights on necessary documentation, such as proof of funds, a medical certificate, and a police background check, as well as discussing options for obtaining the visa in-country versus externally.

I was told by my local immigration office here in Nakhon Sawan that I have to obtain an O visa from outside the country if for retirement. Can anyone confirm if this is the case.

that's the problem you can't go from a PE visa to a Non-O in country.. You can't go "visa to visa" (other than a tourist visa to a Non-Immigrant) in country.

thank you. It's not from a 30 day but a 5 year PE visa.

Not every immigration office can do the in country conversion from a 30 day visa exempt or 60 day tourist visa entry to a 90 day Non-O.

IF that's what they told you, AND that's the immigration office you use, that's what you're gonna hafta do. :/

I know that Penang will issue a 90 day Non-O visa based on being over 50 with proof of 800K baht (or the equivalent) and no seasoning of the funds..

If they have the same 3month requirement for seasoning of money as Vientiane I'll be doing visa exempt / setv to non-0 (>50) in-country as
@T**
describes.

TBH - I'm slowly coming to the opinion that in-country non-0 maybe the way to go.

WOW, that is harsh, when I got my 90 day Non-O from Vientiane I wasn't even 50 yet (49 and 10 months actually) but they knew I would BE 50 before the 90 days on the visa ran out so they issued it to me, AND I used my US bank account to show proof and that money was JUST put into the account, I don't think it was even seasoned a week.

Then again it was a LONG time ago.

I do not know that either vientiane OR savannakhet want to see the money seasoned in an account. I think they just want to see it IN an account.

BUT

I can't be sure sorry.

you run people to both Vientiane and Savannakhet, any ideas?

Proof of funds, a police background check and a medical certificate are required at both Vientiane AND Savannakhet to get a 90 day Non-O visa based on being over 50 (retirement).

Why not go to your local immigration office and see if they can do the 90 day Non-O IN COUNTRY? Most offices can do it IF you have at least 15 days left on your current entry stamp (either a 30 day visa exempt entry, a 60 day tourist visa entry OR a 30 day extension on those)
