ALL TM.30 posts will get the link to this article and video by the immigration office and your topic will be closed.

One final time understand that different immigration offices handle the TM.30 differently.

You need to talk to the place you're staying to see if they will file for you

OR

you need to go to the immigration office in your area and see if you need to file or not.

TLDR : Answer Summary
This post discusses the TM.30 reporting requirement in Thailand, which involves informing local immigration authorities when expats change their residence. Community members share varying experiences and requirements at different immigration offices, emphasizing that the enforcement of TM.30 rules can differ by location. Some express frustration with a recent policy change in the community, which simply directs members to a video and closes discussions without answering specific queries about the TM.30 process. The conversation highlights the complexity and inconsistency of immigration rules in Thailand, urging expats to directly check with local authorities.

This is going to be a long discussion. What is a tourist, seems to be the question. Tourist use the Visa Exempt Entry, Visa on Arrival or Tourist visa to spend their holidays in Thailand. People using these types of admitted to stay period to live inside Thailand are not a tourist. Enforcement of the TM30 is getting stricter at Immigration Offices, out of my own experience I sit next to an Immigration Officer in Dec 2017 in Krabi Office who had a new computer program to do this. She was the only one in the office with the knowledge of that program. Immigration officers are getting trained regular and this program is going or is already nation wide. Maybe not in your office yet or your office decide not to give priority to this rule, we can just not tell. Making long lists of experience does not help, just by the fact when next week the program is installed and people are trained and the Office Chief decide we go to enforce it, all those replies suddenly are useless. Talk to you landlord, condo management and visit the Immigration Office to report within 24 hours after arriving in Thailand. And than ask information, you won't get shot, at least I never read a news article that people got shot in Thai Immigration Offices for asking information. There is enough information to be found on this page in previous discussions, also a lot of incorrect information and feelings of foreigners about this rule. We can not change the rules inside Thailand, we are guests here and have to decide for yourself if you want to follow the rules of face the consequences if you break them. Enjoy your time in Thailand.

Not meaning any disrespect to the mods, who have a thankless task, I don't think this new policy is particularly helpful.

For example, someone yesterday asked the following question, and got only the link to the video before commenting was promptly closed:

"Hi, 2 friends will be coming from HK on visa exemption to stay with me for 5 days. Do I have to file in the TM30 for them? If I don't, will be have problem at the immigration when they leave the country?"

The video doesn't answer that question. The answer is "No, if you don't they will not have any problem when leaving the country". If this person is in Bangkok, it is overwhelmingly unlikely that there could be any negative repercussions from not filing.

The idea of this group is to help people navigate the hurdles and pitfalls of Thai immigration. Obviously there's plenty of nonsense that gets commented and that needs to be deleted, but directing people to the video or telling them to contact immigration isn't always especially helpful either (and especially not in Bangkok, where the immigration office is horrendously busy all the time).

AS far as I see it: a tourist visiting short time and staying in hotels and never need an Extension of Stay just because he/she have to go back to do their daily job in their home country. People living here calling themselves tourists are not tourists.

And

If a tourist is here, staying at hotels, then what type of punishment would they face if they don't have a TM30 on file? There would be none. In fact, we wouldn't be fined, but the property owner, in theory. Of course, if the property owner is your wife, and if she gets fined... well, we both know who's paying for it...

@Liam ****
the problem is there is no real answer to this question! If your hotel doesn't file, how in hell would the average tourist even know??
Tony ********
Lol! A Thai visa advice page that says " ask immigration"

@Benjamin *****
different officers in the same office have different policies on different days! There IS no real answer for this question other than "pay your nickel and take your chance buddy"
Benjamin ******
For this situation, yes, you have to ask immigration. I think the moderators do not want bad advice to be given, and in this case, different offices have different polices and nobody knows what those policies are.

there is only one office. Third time of asking at the last clamp down they said I didn't require it as I had been here a long time. Previous occasions never heard of it.
Robert *******
You sure you asked at the Immigration Office in Thailand? Where is this office?
Benjamin ******
Are you sure you're going to the right office? At my local immigration office, the TM 30 department is in another building and took them some time for them to figure out what I want.
