TLDR : Answer Summary
To switch from a Non-B visa to a Non-O extension based on retirement in Thailand, you need to obtain documentation from your employer indicating your termination date and cancel your work permit. After that, take the receipt and the employer's documentation to the immigration office to cancel your current extension and apply for a new yearly extension based on your retirement status, which is available for individuals over 50. This process effectively changes the reason for your extension from employment to retirement.

  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

IF you are on a Non-B extension of stay you get documentation from your employer stating that on xxx date you stop work, you cancel your work permit, take that receipt and the documentation from your employer to the immigration office cancel your extension and then immediately apply for a NEW yearly extension base on being over 50

You are not going from a Non-B to a Non-O anything, you are simply changing the "reason" for your extension from one based on employment to one based on retirement.

People do it all the time.

NOW on the rare chance you're still on the original 90 day entry of the Non-B VISA you can't get any extension but one based on employment (you are not allowed to apply for an extension based on retirement)

You have to take ONE extension for the reason you got the visa issued before you can cancel it and change the reason for the extension to something else

BUT from an extension based on employment you can change the reason to an extension based on retirement

I see. I was inquiring about one extension for work to another one for retirement - thanks for clarifying that. What I really wanted to know was about the 800,000 baht and whether that has to come from abroad or not (as this can be quite difficult for somebody who has been living in Thailand for decades based on extensions).

nope, the 800K baht that has to be transferred in from abroad is ONLY when you are getting an in coutnry 90 day Non-O visa NOT when you are applying for a yearly extension based on retirement

All you have to show for the retirement extension is that the 800K baht was i n a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the extension

OK clear now - thanks so much! Glad to know that rule actually makes sense.
