TLDR : Answer Summary
Mark Gori inquired about the possibility of obtaining a 90-day single-entry visa based on having a Thai child, without having to provide financial documents. The response confirms that he can indeed get a Non-O visa by presenting the necessary documents such as the child’s birth certificate, the mother's Thai ID, and the child's house registration book, without needing to show financial proof.

How much for this visa? And is it similar to tourist visa? Do you get 60 days and can extend for further 30 to get 90 or is it a straight 90 days? And if so can it then be extended at immigration office in Thailand?

If you marry a Thai National you can get the 1 year Extension of Stay based on marriage. In that year you have time enough to go to family court and become the legal father.

@Cr***
the limit of two land crossings per year are only for 30 day visa exempt entries.

Thanks. When entering on a non-o visa if I enter over a land border does it count towards the 2 maximum land border crossings per year?

, you can get that 60 day visit thai family extension on a 30 day visa exempt entry too.

I don't believe you can get the long term extension just by getting married after the child is born.

I think by then you're too late and with need to go thru family court to be recognized as the legal father.

In order to get the long term extension you need to be the legal father and you need to show 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only or a letter from your consulate stating you get over 40K baht a month in income from abroad along with the required documentation.

If your child's thai mother is agreeable to the process of going thru family court it takes about 6 months all in to get thru the process and get granted parental rights.

Ok thanks. We did have the child out of wedlock but if we marry before 90 days up can I then get the long term extension? Incidentally I have been able to get 60 day extension on a tourist visa as we have a child despite not being married

it is a 90 day single entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa (the O means other). It is 1000baht. You get stamped in for 90 days

You can extend it for 60 days inside thailand based on visiting family without financial proof and with only your name on the birth certificate

If you had the child out of wedlock you cannot get a long term extension on this visa without going thru family court and being recognized as the legal father and being granted parental rights. This is because in situations where a child is born out of wedlock, even if your name is on the birth certificate and you get them a passport from your country you have NO legal parental rights in thailand. 100% of those rights are granted to the mother..

I had to show the front pages of the blue book too, so they see that they equate to the mother and child.

The answer is yes, you can get a 90 day single entry Non-O visa based on supporting a half thai child without showing any proof of financials. You show the birth certificate with your name on it, the mother's thai i/d card and the child's thai house book listing.
