Why does my office want a year transaction detail statement when I apply for a next yearly retirement extension using the banked money method?

ATTN MEMBERS: Seasoning on funds for banked money method for second year "retirement" extensions after using banked money the previous year

This question comes up a lot.

The reason for this IS

IF you're currently on a year extension based on retirement now where you used banked money method last year, you were required by immigration rules to keep the 800k baht balance IN your account for 3 months after the yearly extension was granted and then the balance couldn't go below 400K baht the rest of the year (until 2 months before you apply for this new extension you brought the balance back up to 800K).

Now seeing as most people don't update their thai bank books all that often or all that regularly, when you finally get around to doing it, all it will print is a summary of funds in and funds out with a date range <- which doesn't show to the immigration office that you met the financial requirements last year (for the extension you're currently on now).

So to show that to them you get that year detail transaction print out. (This is in addition to the 'standard' bank letter AND updating your bank book on the date you apply for the new extension)

Keep in mind, some banks can print that year transaction detail on request, but some banks can take 5 to 7 days to get it for you. So if you think you might need it, stop in to your bank well before you're going to ask for it and see what their lead time is

Once you do get that print out It shows every transaction thru that account broken down by month for the previous year, with a balance printed for every transaction.

That way it shows immigrations if you failed to hold up your end of the deal when using banked money method for your extension last year and the coming one you're going to apply for this year

This is not a new rule, it is something immigrations came up with to see IF you met the seasoning requirements for the banked money method for the extension you're and for the new one you will apply for

The only times I've seen them NOT require it is if someone uses a "fixed/term" account where the funds stay in the bank all the time. They can and often will waive that report for that type of accounts

Hope this cleared it up some sorry it was long

TLDR : Answer Summary
The request for a yearly transaction detail statement by immigration when applying for a retirement extension using the banked money method is to confirm compliance with financial requirements. Specifically, if you used the banked money method the previous year, you were mandated to maintain a balance of 800K baht for three months after your extension was granted and not dip below 400K baht for the rest of the year. To verify this, the statement detailing all transactions is needed to demonstrate adherence to these rules, especially if your bank account balances are not regularly updated. Although some banks can provide this statement quickly, others may take longer, so planning ahead is recommended.

@Allan *****
there are two types of "fixed/term" deposit accounts available in thailand.

1 - where you can access the funds during the term of the deposit (even if you are penalized/lose interest etc) and this type is allowed

2 - where the funds are frozen during the term of the deposit, meaning you can only access the earned interest, and this type is not allowed

no issue using a foreign currency account to meet proof of funds as almost all offices accept those

I haven't seen the 'cannot touch the principal' accounts in a fair number of years. That Fixed deposit account is fine, you can pull the money out of that you just get a penalty and lose all the interest

Yes, thanks.

(Fixed give 2.25% now) ๐Ÿ˜€

Hello, I have used "Foreign Currency Deposit Account" (in SEK ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช) and this was accepted both in Jomtien and Phuket.

This year I will use typ 1, SCB fixed deposit at Phuket, at SCB they say they can print on the bank letter "all deposit are available upon request the same day"

I just wonder what typ 2 are, haven't seen that kind of bank book.

It sounds more like Bond savings.

(I am on OA since 2016)

BKK app can do it...took 12 hours. Brought the print out to the bank and they signed and stamped it
John **********
@Ross *******
you also need to be careful that the 12 month statement goes back to the date you received your prior extension as you can only get 12 months and the current month counts towards that. I tried to do this last year, including getting the bank to stamp the statements as the branch "lost" my statements. There was about 3 days not covered by the statements and immigration wouldn't accept them due to that
John **********
I also discovered that while the Head Office won't send the requested statements to the branch by email they will send them by email to the customer (but overnight processing), using the same form to request the statements normally. I took the email to the branch, they printed out and all was good. Luckily, as I didn't have enough time to get them resent the normal way.

that is just crazy ๐Ÿ˜› but this IS Thailand after all ๐Ÿ˜‰

@Ross *******
, not all immigration office accepts that emailed PDF records. Those offices only accept the one from a bank branch. Check with your local immigration office in advance if emailed PDF is acceptable there.

@Ellie ******
I guess you missed the part where I said print it out and take to bank for certification
Ellie *******
@Ross *******
, just make sure, that would be sufficient, as some office is said require those record on "bank paper".

@Ross *******
yep sorry, didn't see that until you pointed it out (my apologies)

I just discovered that feature (Bangkok Bank app) and tested it. Got the statement by e-mail nicely formatted in a day.

@Mike *******
and you need to make sure your office will accept downloaded self printed transaction history because some make you get it from the bank (as it has the bank stamp on it)

@Ross *******
I have SCB and KTB accounts, getting letter and statements the same day, in about thirty minutes depends how many customers are there

Good post fella.

Many people who have the ability choose to have a separate account purely for immigration purposes. Deposit 800k and never touch it. You get basically no interest on it, but you donโ€™t have the yearly worry of if youโ€™ve โ€œkept to the rulesโ€.
Roger *********
@Stuart ********
This is exactly what my wife and I do. Each an account with 800K in, and a joint account for day to day living. At extension time, we take 100 Baht out of the two 800K accounts so they can see that between the last extension and the new one, there have been no other transactions.
Stuart *********
@Roger ********
as long as the accounts are over the 800k when you take the 100 baht out then youโ€™ll be fine. Many reports of some people taking out a โ€œmistakeโ€ of X amount of baht only to put it back the next day but fall foul of the โ€œrulesโ€.
Melissa *********
Thanks! A few months ago I got a fixed account for the 800k thb and opened a separate account for my daily spending. Happy to see that this might add some ease.
