DO NOT HIJACK OTHER POSTS :/

Today is the expiration date of the student visa, but the university has not issued the new visa documents. Can I apply for an extension? Because today is the weekend, if it is next Monday, will it affect the visa or leave a bad record?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing an issue where their student visa is expiring today, but the university has not yet provided the necessary documentation for extension. Comments indicate that the user can apply for an extension at the immigration office the next day since the expiration coincides with a weekend, which should prevent an overstay fine. However, some warn that they might need to cancel their current visa before obtaining a COVID-19 extension. Guidance is given on seeking assistance from the university and immigration office regarding the delay in documentation.

I messaged you

If your papers are not ready by Monday, your university could ring or email immigration, explaining delay, but will be ready ASAP

Unfortunately
@Li**
that won't stop them from going on overstay at 500 baht a day.. ...

What exactly do you have in your passport? IF you have the original ED Visa ("a full page sticker") there is nothing to cancel. On Monday, go to the immigration office and get a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.

IF you have an extension of stay based on studying, you need to cancel that extension of stay before applying for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.

student visa Valid today,I plan to go to the immigration office to apply for covid extension on Monday

@Sun ******
Is the "visa" the "stamp" or the "sticker"? OR better yet, can you upload a picture of what's in your passport?

Then you got to get the stamp cancelled before you can apply for the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19

that's the bad thing
@S**
,

MOST offices will have you cancel the current ED visa/extension you're on now BEFORE you can get a covid extension :(

You might be better waiting for the paperwork (if it will be ready in a few days) and just paying the overstay fines of 500baht a day when you go get the ED extension later in the week.

Definitely go talk to the immigration office on Monday.

Now it seems that it is possible to reapply for ED visa after obtaining the covid extension. I will go to the immigration office on Monday morning.

be careful. "Reapply" for the Ed visa will not be the same as receiving an 'extension' of a current Ed visa

**correct me if I'm wrong

So, as mentioned ... Maybe talk to your school or even have someone on the phone from your school to speak with an immig. officer on Monday.

I feel like switching to the 'covid' extension and reapplying for an Ed visa might be a more expensive and time consuming process compared to just waiting for the extension and paying the overstay fees

there could be a possibility for OP can re-apply for just a new extension (without applying for new Non-ED visa) after covid extension. Non-O holders are doing this route (marriage extension -> covid extension -> directly marriage extension again, etc). But I never read about Non-ED based extension holders doing similar here.

Definitely agree to try to get papers and apply for an extension based on studying rather than a covid workaround.

Why didn't you get documents from your university weeks ago? Most places provide the documents for extension at least several weeks before your current stamp runs out

You can take the documents to the immigration office and apply for an extension on Monday. The rule is, if your stamp expires on a day the immigration office is closed (weekends or holidays) & you go the very next day they're open you will not be fined for overstay, but you will get an overstay stamp in your passport that says overstay fine waived due to holiday.

GO Monday, for sure, otherwise you will pay overstay at 500baht a day

The new university documents are not ready, they are still preparing, so I want to know if I can apply for the covid extension, and then I will apply for the ED visa after obtaining the new visa documents
John ***************
I may be wrong, but as far as I know you will need to pay overstay until you get the cancellation letter from your university. I could be wrong however
John ***************
When did your ED visa expire?
Sun *******
John ***************
If your visa expired, you are officially on 'overstay'. That is a problem
Sun *******
@John **************
but today its weekend so can not apply it just wait until Monday
Fedor *********
@Sun ******
from my recent experience, you have to submit documents 1 working day before the last date. Meaning you had to do it on Friday and Monday will be counted as overstay
Sun *******
@Fedor ********
yea i need to pay 500baht one day
John ***************
No such thing. You need to cancel it. Unless you exited the country and re entered on a different visa. It will be problem.
John ***************
You need to cancel your ED visa first. So you will need a letter from university to cancel the ED visa.
Sun *******
@John **************
It's expired. I think I shouldn't need letter.

that will be between you and the immigration office you deal with. You should be able to, BUT in order to get a covid extension you might have to cancel the ED visa extension you're on now. You need to be talking to your school/uni and the immigration office about what you can do

I'd definitely go monday and see what you can do

Because the university hasn’t given me any documents yet, so if i can apply for covid extension right on Monday, that’s the best. Can i apply for covid extension on Monday?
