TLDR : Answer Summary
The best time to visit Thailand is subjective and varies depending on individual preferences regarding weather and crowd levels. Many travelers and residents agree that the rainy season can offer lush landscapes, cheaper prices, and smaller crowds, while others prefer the peak season for better weather and lively atmospheres. The comments suggest that there is no universally 'bad' time to visit, as different regions in Thailand experience varying weather conditions throughout the year. From March during the hot season to the shoulder months like July or the rainy season in September, travelers share their favorite times based on personal experiences, highlighting that enjoying Thailand's culture and people often outweighs concerns about the weather.

Depends. I live in Hua Hin and the onslaught isn't so bad here. In fact it livens the place up a little. But Pattaya without doubt. When I lived there I always got pizzed off with 2 week millionaires booking my regular freelancers at this time of year
Eli **********
I love the wet season, cheaper hotels and less crowded. Also not too hot and the rain is usually only for an hour or so in the evening.

Interesting comments, Thailand is different al over , the seasons aren’t all exactly the same. It is a long way from the very north to the very south. There isn’t any beaches in the North and most of central Thailand . Some great opportunities to see Thailand outside of the Northern hemisphere winter
Luit *****************
@Ross *********
Exactly, there simply is not a best time to visit Thailand.

At any time there is a region where it is good weather.

Most people just do not realize how different the far south where I am now is from the north, and how different the weather is.

It is not only over 1200 kilometers, or 1500 by road, it also is a complete different climate.

Allthough this time of year here in the deep south certainly not is the best, it is good to escape the cold and wet winter weather from Netherlands.

January till March are normally better weather here, after that it will be very hot
Dave *********
April to June is nice and hot and very little rain. December onwards is comfortable and not much rain. Depends if you like the heat or not.

At my first home in a rice farming village in Isaan, we loved the rain. We could stand out in it with a bottle of shampoo, a bar of soap and get free showers. 😂😂😂.

I've come in June before and it was pretty nice

I ❤️ the peak season!!

Excellent weather and love the hustle and bustle!

We are planning a family trip in March. We don’t mind hot weather at all so hoping to avoid crowds a bit and not be in tons of rain?? Any advice is appreciated! 💛

March is one of the high season months and he’s also one of the hottest. Best for being around the islands that time of year because blue skies and all islands open and running tours without fear of rain or storms

@Jay ******
thank you! This is quite exciting! 🌴🌱🌿🎋

Couldn't agree more, less crowds, more availability, low season rates!

Xmas time is the best time in BKK for the weather, those sub 30C days are so nice, thats the only positive though
Dany ********
for south thailand january to september, maybe october is good. considering the last 2 years i would avoid november / december as that seems to be stormy season now. while rainy season that started in May was very mild with mostly perfect days
Oliver **********
In related news, the best time to travel is not rush hour

Kenny *****
@David ********
yes that’s why Nov, Dec, Jan, and Feb are peak season.
Baz *********
@Kenny ****
It also happens to be winter in the Northern Hemisphere as well so plenty of people from Europe, the UK and the parts of the USA escaping for the cold..
David *********
@Kenny ****
i live in Jomtien lucky i can walk or catch baht bus because traffic is terrible but i have found a few places to get away for a month during the peak months

@David ********
yes, traffic is horrible during peak season.

There is no such thing as a bad time to visit Thailand...

Some months are better than others for weather but just go and enjoy regardless
Jay *******

@Baz ********
yes but some of these crowds and higher prices are less than ideal
David ***********
There is no such as bad weather, just different degrees of good weather.
Luit *****************
@David **********
I also had this idea, but last month there were several days it rained whole day, and that I do not consider as a degree of good weather.
David ***********
@Luit ****************
tounge in cheek remark, as a hiker being in 40 mph winds and horizontal rain in Scotland is fun. Thankfully OK in Thailand here although a little chilly in the mornings
Luit *****************
@David **********
You are in a different part of Thailand I assume, here not chilly in the mornings and even on the days with rain whole day temperatures minimal 24 degrees in the night.

I do not hate rain, and I really like a hefty thunderstorm, but complete grey days, no sun and rain the whole day I do not like.

Then it feels like I am at home in Netherlands only a lot hotter.
David ***********
@Luit ****************
Up in Isaan and most days blue.skies. Love thunder storms also.

You guys get around. Was in Scotland hiking this year. I met sooo many people from the Netherlands I wondered if anyone was there 🤣
Luit *****************
@David **********
Indeed people from the Netherlands you find almost everywhere, but here in deep south of Thailand, Songkhla and Hat Yai I don't see any western tourists.

At some touristic spots here Asian tourists see mee as an attraction and want to be pictured with me.

But about the weather, normally here November and December are the 2 months with the most rain, but not as extreme as this year when it caused severe floodings killing people and stopping all traffic more than once.
Matty ****
I live here all year round.

I prefer the rainy season because we can explore different hotels at 50% less Price wise.

But the weather now is unbeatable

and people act like it rains 24-7 during the rainy season. Normally sprinkles in the afternoon and maybe rains in the middle of the night. I like it because it cools things off.
Luit *****************
@Bradley ********
Sometimes it indeed rains 24-7, I just remember last week of November this year.
Bradley *********
Matty ****
@Bradley ********
some areas of Bangkok turn into a swimming pool during the rainy season because they built too much without proper infrastructure for drainage

but the rain is not apocalyptic by any means.. but keep the myth alive!! we like our cheap hotels 🤣
Bradley *********
@Matty ***
and the crowd down. The high season is miserable by me right now. Foreigners everywhere and traffic is bad.
Matty ****
@Bradley ********
we try to stay at resorts that have less than 75 rooms

any of those 300 room mega hotels right now

hell no

the rainy season cleans up the air as well.

@Brandon ***********
OK … I’m back with you 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️. Thanks 😂
Brandon ************
I prefer to take any trip to another country during "shoulder season" as I find the smaller crowds and somewhat lower prices more than makes up for the weather. My favorite time to visit Rome is late fall or winter. I'm already going to be walking a ton anyways so just add some layers and it's beautiful!!

Unfortunately for me, Thailand is not a purely holiday destination so I don't get to decide when I go based on the season. I greatly prefer a few hours of rain to jam-packed roads and waiting for a seat at the hotel breakfast. I sure miss Covid when it comes to that aspect.
David **********
@Brandon ***********
I go to Brazil every High Season in Pattaya.
George *********
I am going in august 2025 but I think that too is kinda peak season despite the rain.
Tore *********
@George ********
thats definitely low season in Thailand 🤷🏻‍♂️ European and American tourists coming when its summer holiday there are a minority of the general tourists here.

Its other asian countries like China and India that makes up for the majority of tourists here. And nowadays Russians as well,
David **********
@George ********
August is Peak Low Season

@George ********
December, January, February. Peak 🤔
Tore *********
@Terry ********
November trough January yes. From February its low season already from Bangkok and north. Due to burning season
Dmb *******
@George ********
depends where you go different areas have different high and rainy seasons
James ********
@George ********
definitely not peak! In actual fact probably the lowest period of the year because it's the height of the rainy season
Luke **********
@George ********
august is not peak season at all but I think a great time to go
Bonnie *********
@George ********
