TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is concerned about transferring their visa from an old passport to a new emergency passport as their one-year extension is expiring soon. They received advice that this transfer can typically occur during the next 90-day reporting or at the extension application. However, it is crucial to ensure the new passport is valid for the entire duration of the one-year extension.

I'm getting an "emergency" passport soon from the US embassy since I have only one page left. So it's my understanding that the next time I "bounce" I just bring BOTH passports (old and new)? Or should I go to the consulate in Samui in the meantime and have them do this (transfer the visa and stamp from the old passport to the new "emergency" passport) BEFORE a bounce? Just want to be sure I'm doing everything right.

The US embassy now will do regular passport renewals (meaning you get a 10 year passport like normal AND you get the extra pages (52 not 28) for free ;)

well the USA situation being what it was and my passport expiring in August I sent it last month and took a week—but as to the question—how long is the window to transfer the visa —thanks

You say you got your "emergency passport" and usually those are only good for a year.. (Unlike renewing a regular passport)

You need to remember that when you apply for a yearly extension you need a passport to be valid that whole extension too. ;)

you should be able to do it the next time you do a 90 day report or the when you get your next extension.
