TLDR : Answer Summary
A 6-month Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) can be extended to approximately 9 months by strategically entering and exiting Thailand multiple times. Each entry grants 60 days, and after exiting the country just before the visa expires, you can enter again for another 60 days. Additionally, one 30-day extension is allowed, which helps reach the total of around 270 days.

the 6 month METV is good for unlimited entries of 60 days each for it's validity (6 months from the date it's issued)

You get the visa as close to the date you're comin' here as you can so you don't burn down the validity NOT being here πŸ˜‰

Works like this

enter get 60 days

when that runs out, exit/re-enter the country to get a new 60 days

when that runs out, exit/re-enter the country to get a new 60 days

just before the VISA expires, exit/re-enter the country to get a final 60 days (that takes you to 240 days)

then get the one 30 day extension you're allowed <- taking you to about 270 days or 9 months

I have a question. Can I stay in the country for those 90 days extra even if the VISA for the 6 months already expired?

Ahhh okay, I had that doubt for so long! Thank you Tod!

I believe you are confusing two separate things,

the visa validity <- which is how long you can show that and ENTER the country,

and

the entry stamp <- which is how long you can STAY inside the country.

You enter just before the visa expires and will get stamped in for 60 days and you can extend that one time by 30 more days for 1900baht

Thank you for this! With the METV would you get a 30 day exemption once you enter initially? Assume not since this would be completed prior to entry, just curious!

@Matt *******
Visa exempt entry is for people entering without a visa so it would not apply here.

How late do you suggest to submit the evisa application?

Edit: Vienna embassy

varies country to country. For example the UK is known to issue in 2-5 days.

France is known to take weeks.
