ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS

LAND BORDERS WITH LAO OPEN

The land borders with Lao opened on Monday for entry from Thailand (they've been open to get out of Lao into thailand for a while now)

The two thai consulates in Lao (Vientiane & Savannakhet) are open and running (they actually always were, what closed was the border not the consulate :P )

The consulate is in Vientiane and it requires you book an online appointment to get in the gate to apply for a visa

this is their website,

This is the link to make an appointment

[members only]/

IF you make an appointment and then miss it you're blocked from the system for a month (I think it's a month but it could be just 10 days :P ) what it means though is you can't use that consulate until you're unlocked and can book another appointment :/

The other thai consulate is in Savannakhet (across the river from Mukdahan)

They are walk up service, this is their website

[members only]

NOTE: The thai consulate in Vientiane does NOT issue year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant visas of any type. Just 90 day single entry.

It's the thai consulate in Savannakhet that used to issue the year-long, multi-entry Non-O's for marriage to a thai and raising half thai children.

It does not list that they offer the year-multi Non-O on the Savannakhet thai consulate website, you write year/multiple on the application form and you give them 5000baht. <- That's how it worked before and hopefully how it will continue to work.

At this time no one knows if they will continue to do it as no one has visa run to Savannakhet for one and reported back in yet.

Here is the entry process to Lao

TLDR : Answer Summary
The land borders between Thailand and Laos have reopened, allowing entry into Thailand. The Thai consulates in Vientiane and Savannakhet are operational, with Vientiane requiring online appointments for visa applications. The Vientiane consulate issues only 90-day single entry Non-Immigrant visas, while Savannakhet traditionally issued year-long, multi-entry Non-O visas for marriage or raising Thai children, though its current status is uncertain. Appointment cancellations and no-shows lead to account suspensions at the Vientiane consulate. Additional discussions include the vaccination requirements for entry and the rules around visa exemptions upon re-entry.

Just a few tips for you people thinking to go to Savannakhet for those year-long, multi-entry Non-O visas based on marriage to a thai or raising half thai children

For the marriage to a thai one you need

-the ORIGINAL marriage certificates so they can see them.

-wife's thai i/d card

-wife's house book listing

For the raising thai children one, you need

the original birth certificate

mother's thai i/d

mother's house book listing

child house book listing (if there is one)

Next to the box you check for Non-Immigrant Visa write

ONE YEAR -MULTIPLE ENTRY

and make sure you give them 5000baht

Believe me they'll give you the 3000baht back if they won't issue the year-multi-entry to you šŸ˜®

Here's the weblink with the application download on it

Yes that's right If you book a meeting and then miss it, you will be blocked from the system for a period of 30 days. Cancellation is 10 days blocked from the system. I was just when consulate started with this new system in Vientiane šŸ™‚
Anders **************************
This is what it says on my account at the consulate in Vientiane: If you do not show for your scheduled appointment, there is a 30 day suspension rule for your account and if you cancel your appointment, we will impose a 10 day suspension for your account.

Thanks Todd. Did I miss something? 90 day single entry? Has this changed from the old 60 day TV single entry or is the 90 day something completely different?
Ellie *******
@Prete **********
, 90days single entry is a Non-Immigrant type of visa. Not Single Entry Tourist Visa. SETV still stays the same, 60days stamp upon entry to Thailand, 90days validity to use the visa.

Good to know. Thank you.

One other thing to keep in mind is we also don't know how those two consulates will be as far as issuing tourist visas to people who've been here in thailand on covid extensions for a while.

They could be fine like the thai consulate in Phnom Penh is and issue them without any problems

OR

They could be hard core like the thai consulate in Singapore. Many people were approved who applied online to go there for their tourist visa. Then when they showed up and the officer saw a passport full of covid extensions they turned them down and denied the application for a tourist visa.

It's going to take a while to find out how these two consulates will be

Cool, no Covid test!

Great news, so again it's easy to leave Thailand, but harder to get back in.

@Leo ****
still need to meet the entry requirements in place right now to get back in to thailand just like everyone does
James *****
Does this mean they can issue a 90 day TV in the embassy in Lao?
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@James ****
yep, meet the requirements go there and apply for a single entry tourist visa

Keep in mind the VISA sticker is good for 90 days <- that means you have 3 months to enter the country and when you do you'll get stamped in for 60 days like everyone does on a regular tourist visa
