TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquires about their eligibility to obtain a Non-O visa in Thailand while having a Thai child but currently being on a tourist visa. Responses highlight that if the user is not married to the child's mother, they may not have parental rights, which could affect their visa application options.

If you are NOT married to the thai mother when the child is born, you have NO parental rights as the father no matter if your name is on the birth certificate or not. You would only be able get a 90 day single entry Non-O visa from the thai consulates in Vientiane or Savannakhet.

When it is a legitimate visa for a legitimate reason, they generally don't harass you at consulates. It is only overuse of tourist visas by people who are not really tourists.

Thia is what i am doing for the moment. 90 day non-O plus 2 month extension at immigration. Very easy. Havent had any problems.

, you are totally correct (y)

but the person was asking about getting a Non-O visa and as an unmarried father of a half thai child without going thru family court you can only get 90 day single entry Non-O's from Vientiane or Savannakhet.

Now once he comes in on the 90 day visa he could certainly get a 60 day "visit family" extension after that which would give him 5 months in country on that visa.

A friend of mine has child with Thai mother, not married to each other and he frequently gets a 60 day parental extension. This is from Khon Kaen Immigration.
