How to get the most out of a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa.

This type of visa can be issued for a variety of reasons. The most common and widely used is based on marriage to a thai national. This visa is available at SOME thai consulates in year-long, multi-entry and others as only a 90 day single entry.

We are talking about the year-long, multi-entry Non-O in this post and it doesn't matter what reason you used to get it.

The visa is valid for a year from the date it's issued. It is unlimited entry during that year and every entry gets you stamped in for 90 days. You can get 15 months of stay (in 90 day increments) off a visa that is valid for a year this way;

Get the visa, enter thailand on a 90 day stamp

when the stamp is running out, exit/re-enter getting a new 90 day stamp (taking you to about 6 months)

when the stamp is running out, exit/re-enter getting a new 90 day stamp (taking you to about 9 months)

when the stamp is running out, exit/re-enter getting a new 90 day stamp (taking you to about a year) < pay attention to the expiration date on the VISA so you don't mess up the next step

When the VISA itself is running out ,exit/re-enter getting a FINAL 90 day stamp (taking you to almost 15 months).

AND

to maximize the in country time get the 60 day visit family extension at the immigration office for 1900baht on that last 90 day entry. That ends up taking you to 17 months total :P ;) :)

Thank you so much for this post Tod. My wife and I just picked up my passport at the Thai Consulate-General here in the States yesterday. We got the 1 year multi entry. We will make sure to save this.

I just wrote it out from knowledge I have about visas/extensions why?

Also i have heard of some immigration offices allowing you to get the 2 month extension on each 3 month entry. This would only allow 15 months though. Worth a thought if you dont want to be going out every 3 months.

Also please check with your local immigration office to see if they will do the extension more than once. As some will and some wont.😁

Does this also apply to the 1 year extension of stay?

no, you do not have to leave the country with a 1 year extension of stay.

Here is an example image of a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa.

The visa was issued on the 5th of Feb 2019. It has a valid until date of the 4th of Feb 2020. It is also Multiple entry..

The holder of this visa can enter/exit thailand an unlimited number of times during the validity of the visa (a year from the date of issue) and each entry will get them stamped in for 90 days.

IF they exit/re-enter on the 4th of Feb 2020, they will get one FINAL 90 day stamp good until the 3rd of May 2020 <- that would take them to 15 months using that one year visa.

I have this visa for 12 months. So I can exit/enter Thailand day before it expires and get 90 more days.

You have a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant visa (where you exit/re-enter every 90 days)?

If you do, as long as you exit/-re-enter the country before the VISA itself expires you will get stamped in for 90 days
