We have the same with our child's passport, he's got a new passport because the one he entered Thailand with has expired. He came with tourist visa but never got any extension, so he's overstaying. We don't know what we should transfer to his new passport and how, would be glad to have a tip

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice regarding their child's new passport after overstaying in Thailand with a tourist visa. They want to know how to handle the transfer of visa information to the new passport. Commenters clarify that visas cannot be transferred between passports and discuss the implications of overstaying, suggesting ways to deal with the situation, especially for children under 15.

You can't transfer VISAS to a new passport, so if he came in on a tourist visa <- that you bought from a thai consulate before you came here, OR on a visa exempt entry (the free entry stamp) and you never got any extension on the entry stamp at the immigration office you can't get the stamps moved to the new passport

AND

now that they are on overstay EVEN if they did have an extension they won't move the stamps.

So if they are under 15 just let them overstay, OR show both passports at the border, get stamped out and get the overstay stamp in the new passport and then bring them back in on it

thanks! I thought the immigration should transfer the entry stamp in a new passport, at least that's what they told us.

So, when we will be leaving Thailand, we need to show both passports. The kid already has a year of overstay

the Immigration office that serves the area where you stay here will not do anything with just an entry stamp (especially not one with a year overstay)..

The immigration officers at passport control when you stamp OUT of the country (either at the airport or at a land border) will make a note in the new passport that he entered on a stamp from the old one, and stamp him out on the new passport and put the overstay stamp in the new passport too

What is the age of the child?

What is your passport nation?

he's 6 yo. He entered Thailand with a Russian passport, but he is also a Romanian citizen. When his Russian passport was close to expiring, we made a Romanian passport for him (because it was a lot faster), but then they told us in Immigration that it was a mistake and he needs a new Russian one. Now he has an expired Russian passport and 2 absolutely empty new ones 😊

Thank you, guys, for your help! Have a nice time wherever you are!

as James said, you EXIT thailand on the passport of the country you ENTERED on. So if you're going to bounce him out to get off of overstay and on to the new passport just take BOTH passports and give them to passport control.

Also note that you can't switch nationalities by land (only by air) So you can't go to the border with the russian passports stamp out, and then switch to the romanian one to stamp back in.

as he entered with the Russian passport, he will need to leave Thailand on a Russian passport.

I hope it's not a problem that he's going to be overstaying for a couple of years.

And maybe you know how to fly around the county? Can we just use an empty new passport for his travels?
