TLDR : Answer Summary
Jill Benn asks if both she and her husband need to have 800,000 baht in the bank while applying for long-term visas in Thailand. Responses suggest that the easiest route for both is to obtain Non-Immigrant Type O-A visas prior to arriving in Thailand, which allow for an extended stay with specific financial requirements. Alternatively, her husband could initially apply for a 90-day Non-Immigrant Type O visa and later extend it, while Jill could qualify as a trailing spouse for a matching extension without needing to show financial proof.

I posted in the deleted thread with similar information to
's above regarding the 'piggy-backing' part, but I received abuse about it by members who shouldn't be offering advice. I 'called' for Tod or Ron to come & sort the post out, which Tod eventually did. Glad Jill Benn now has the correct information, enjoy your stay in Thailand ;-)

Great reply as always. I hope this clears everything up for those always pushing the wrong info and abusing other members to further push their wrong information. Better to wait for an Admin if you don't know what you are talking about.

Okay, your easiest choice by far would be to BOTH get Non-Immigrant Type O-A visas from a thai consulate in your country BEFORE you wing your way here. <- That is the easiest and least troublesome way to both get almost 2 years of stay in thailand.
The other choice is for your husband to get a 90 day Non-immigrant Type O visa then apply for a yearly extension of stay based on being over 50 by meeting the financial requirements. AND you to get a 90 day Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on being the spouse of someone on a long term extension of stay THEN get a matching yearly extension without the need to show proof of funds.
Your extension would be 'piggy backed' under the "trailing spouse: clause.
While your husband could get a 90 Non-O visa inside the country from the immigration office from a tourist visa or a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp you could not and would have to get your 90 day Non-O visa from a thai consulate in another country. (Non-O visas are not issued in country for trailing spouses of people on retirement extensions)
Sorry I deleted your other post. There was some good information in it, but there was also some total crap and I couldn't be bothered to sort thru it ..
Good Luck

I deleted the other thread because of all the b/s posts :O there was NO way I could clean it up to the degree that it'd make any sense.
My wife and I have been here 14 years on Extensiins based on Retirement. I have the 800,000 in my Bank and my wife is piggy backed on to mine. She does not need to have any money deposited.
