There are unconfirmed reports coming in that the thai consulate in Yangon will issue year long, multi-entry Non-O visas based on marriage to at thai without proof of funds (like Savannakhet, Ho Chi Minh City & Seoul).

If anyone has used the thai consulate in Yangon for that visa and can back up these reports please let me know.

It'd be good to have another consulate that will issue that visa without proof of funds.

TLDR : Answer Summary
There are unconfirmed reports that the Thai consulate in Yangon may begin issuing year-long, multi-entry Non-O visas based on marriage to a Thai citizen without requiring proof of funds. This would align with policies seen in certain other consulates like Savannakhet, Ho Chi Minh City, and Seoul. Community members seek firsthand experiences about this process at the Yangon consulate, discussing the convenience of travel arrangements and potential challenges, including visa requirements for entry into Myanmar.

I thought in Savannakhet only 3 months were granted. If it is one year married visa in Savannakhet, why is Burma a better option?

for a yearly extension of stay there is no rule that states the 400K baht has to be transferred in from abroad, it can come from within the country.

As far as your consulate, perhaps stating the country you hold a passport from would narrow down the answer on whether your consulate will or won't provide you the affidavit of income from abroad notary to meet the financial requirements that way.

Yap, familiar about that one. 400K must be transferred from abroad and stay at my bank account for two months which incurs quite costs. When it comes to 40K income from abroad, I really don't know why my embassy would confirm that I receive my salary from a third country. Sincerely, they don't mind about it. Any thoughts?

Or when that visa runs out, you could apply for a yearly extension of stay at the immigration office by meeting the financial requirements of 400K baht banked in a thai bank account in your name for 2 months prior to your application or by showing a notarized affidavit of income from abroad from your consulate here stating you get 40K baht a month in income.

you can wring about 15 months of stay out of a year long visa (in 90 day increments). You time the last border bounce to be just prior to the enter before date on the visa itself and that gets you a final 90 day entry and takes you to 15 months. Then you go get another visa. I know people who have been doing those visas for many many many years now.

Thanks. I guess it is a plus as it is widening touristic options. But once when a year-long visa is issued, is the boarder crossing needed every 3 months 4 times and then again a year-long visa is needed to be issued in one of those places?

There are currently THREE thai consulates in the area that will issue year-long, multi-entry Non-O visas based on marriage to a thai without proof of funds, Savannakhet, Ho Chi Minh City and Seoul.

It would be good if there was another one that would also do it as well.

I'm booked to go to Savannakhet via Nakorn Phanom on the weekend with the missus in tow but the weather looks a bit grim :-/

Savannakhet is the easiest one. The consulate is just a few kilometres away from the border entrance. Plus you get to drink beerlao afterwards.

there are THREE other consulates in the area that all do year-long, multi-entry Non-O visas based on marriage without the need to show funds.

Savannakhet Lao, Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam & Seoul South Korea

Anyone wanting to do a test run to the thai consulate in Yangon.

There are really good time points from both Air Asia and Nok Air from DMK - RGN.

You can get there early enough to go straight from the airport to the consulate to turn in your paperwork.

The next day you can pick up your passport and go right to the airport to fly back in the evening.

With the Nok flight you even have time to eat dinner before you get to the airport. ;)

Both are running about 2700baht r/t Don Mueang to Yangon.

About the only down side IS most people need a visa to get into Burma :/ but you can get that online for $50USD..

Maybe I will go do a test run

If you were going to try it, I'd certainly take proof that you do have the 400K baht in the bank just in case they do ask for proof but I wouldn't give it to them unless they asked for it.
