TLDR : Answer Summary
Caleb Lim inquired about obtaining a Non-O visa based on marriage while currently on a visa exempt entry. The discussions covered the procedures for applying at Thai consulates versus immigration offices, the necessary documentation, and the importance of maintaining funds in a Thai bank account for visa requirements. Suggestions included transferring 400K baht into a Thai bank account for the purpose of visa application and extension, as well as the requirement for a marriage certificate. Additionally, it was noted that if applying for the visa from a Thai consulate, proof of funds could be shown from a non-Thai bank.

O)kay, I think
@Caleb ****
has enough information to decide whether they're going to apply for a Non-O visa from a thai consulate in another country OR from the immigration office here, and how to get the yearly extension after that.

Thank you one and all for the suggestions (y)

Show this to ur wife, and let her prepare everything on the list. Then go to the immigration office pay 1900 baht and you will get your non-o visa within 2 weeks.
Rick *****
An extra 100 baht doesn't hurt i guess. But thanks for the clarification.

Rick Van The price of an application for the Non Immigrant O visa is 2.000 Thb

You can apply via the thai embassy https://visaonline.thaiembassy.sg/index.php and submit your documents. Drop them an email:

and submit your documents. Drop them an email: consular@thaiembassy.sg if you wanna use your ROM certificate. They probably issue you a 3 months visa. They are quite helpful and responsive.

remember there is a HUGE difference between a year long extension of stay based on marriage from an immigration office and a year-long, multi-entry NOn-O visa based on marriage from a thai consulate.

On the year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa you get stamped in for 90 days, when that runs down you go to the border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country and then stamp back into thailand to get another 90 day entry stamp. You do that for the whole year the visa is valid for.

Yup I understand this, thank you!

Okay, so right now you're not even married yet? I would say while you're in Singapore getting married, stop at the thai consulate there and get the 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai from them before you come back

Caleb Lim you can show proof of funds from your bank there

they do not mention the seasoning so I'd say no).

The thing is ALL applications for visas to thailand in Singapore are done online <- meaning you submit all your information and they tell you if you're approved or not and when you can come to the consulate and get the visa. You can't walk in there anymore without having used the online system.

You'll know before you even go to the consulate if you are approved or not

This is what is listed, a bank statement of 400k baht, so can I show proof of funds in my Singapore bank and does this need to be seasoned ?

@Caleb ****
you are confusing getting the visa from a thai consulate in another country with getting the visa from the immigration office inside the country

IF you want to get the visa from the immigration office inside the country the 400K baht has to be in a thai bank account in your name only. (Some offices require it be seasoned to issue you the 90 day Non-O visa but some do not, so check with your immigration office FIRST).

IF you are getting the 90 day Non-O visa from a thai consulate (like in singapore) and they require proof of funds you can show the money in your bank in your country..
Caleb *****
Tod Daniels Yes we are doing it next week. I did consider this option, but one of the requirement is 400k baht, and hence my questions of whether this has to be seasoned AND does it have to be in a Thai bank or would having the equal value of SGD in my Singapore bank suffice?

If it has to be in a Thai bank OR has to be seasoned, this option would be out and we will then look at going to Savannaket or Ho Chi Min.
Caleb *****
And what about the marriage certificate, can it be from my home country (Singapore) , because that’s where we will be registering our marriage.

And also the Thai Wife House book listing, I assume a signed copy is required and not the original one ?
Caleb *****
David Broadfoot Yes I understand that, which is why I am here asking if I need to get it translated or what has to be done.

If you are wanting to get a year extension based on marriage from the immigration office I would:

transfer 400K baht into a thai bank account in your name

then go to a thai consulate in either Savannakhet Lao or Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam and apply for a 90 day single entry Non-O visa based on marriage. <- those consulates do not require proof of funds and only minimal documentation to issue the visa.

When you come back into the country you would get stamped in for 90 days. When you have 30 days or less left on that stamp, get the documentation together, update your bank book, get the bank letter etc and go apply for the yearly extension. By that time the 400K baht will have been in your bank account the required 2 months before you apply.

Your application will go under consideration for 30 days then you go back and get the year extension stamped into your passport.

That' what I'd do because it cuts two visits to the immigration office out of your plan because you got the visa from the thai consulate NOT from the immigration office.

You also need to meet the proof of funds by banking 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only. You cannot use a bank account in another country for proof of funds using banked money method..

@Tod ********
what about for the 90 days in country Non- O visa ?

@Caleb ****
for the year extension you need to have the money in the account for 2 months prior to you applying for the extension.

Does this need to be seasoned ?

Okay, first off IF you're on a visa exempt entry and want to get a 90 day in country Non-O visa based on marriage you need a minimum of 15 days left on your current entry stamp.

That's because applications for in country Non-O visas go under consideration for 14 days before you go back and get it inked into your passport.

Unless you're in Chiang Mai when you need 21 days left on your stamp.
