ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS

COVID EXTENSION PROGRAM CONTINUED UNTIL MAY 24th.

The police order was release and I have NOT had time to read it only skim it but it appears that the 60 day covid program HAS been continued until May 24th.

EDIT: It appears that Non-Immigrant Type Visa / Extension holders CAN apply for covid extensions on this program.

Apologies to everyone who tried to post that they were told that at the immigration office, (you under stand we had to wait for the official announcement)

Thanx go to Steve Williams wife Blue C Williams for sending the PDF to me (which I couldn't attach to this thread :( )

AND

Thanx goes to Anyarin Piyachawanphat for sending me the photos in this post

Thank you (y)

What was so sad is that order is dated YESTERDAY the 24th yet there was NO announcement about it at all :(

TLDR : Answer Summary
A recent police order indicates that the COVID-19 extension program has been continued until May 24th, allowing holders of Non-Immigrant Type Visas to apply for extensions. While immigration offices have shown varying degrees of compliance with these updates, individuals are encouraged to check with their local immigration office for eligibility and guidance on applying for a COVID extension.

And just like that this becomes an FYI thread :)

Can anyone report that they actually successfully got the 60 day extension who has previously been on ED visa before Covid? I have only heard of 'under consideration' or being denied, at least locally on Koh Phangan/ Samui.. be very interested to know if anyone is getting approved?
Robert *******
@Stephen ******
You have to go by your own, a Facebook comment from another person can not be used to pursue the Immigration Officer to stamp your passport with an Extension of Stay based on you being unable to travel.
Stephen *******
@Robert ******
well actually what I have been told is is that it doesn’t depend on you being ‘unable’ to travel ie there are no flights, but on there being a good reason not to travel, as in my country there is a major outbreak right now and my whole family has covid it would potentially be a good enough reason but my embassy is not blanket refusing to provide any letters to any citizens
Robert *******
@Stephen ******
My last advice, go to find out yourself. There is NO WAY others can tell you or Facebook comments can predict the answer of the Immigration Officer in front of you. All you can do is be prepared with the so many times explained of the needed documents and explain why you think you are legit for another 60 days inside Thailand. Good luck.
Stephen *******
@Robert ******
yes of course- but it can be useful to know other peoples experience as the official guidance is confusing right now-that’s all I’m asking for

@Stephen ******
with OVER 70 immigration offices and the hundreds of officers who man them there's no way that one persons experience is gonna factor in as all that helpful 🙁
Robert *******
@Stephen ******
confusing? Yes as it depends on the Officer to believe if you are unable to travel.

ATTENTION MEMBERS: I cannot understand the blow back people on Non-Immigrant Type visas/extensions are getting trying to apply for a 60 day covid extension during this program that runs from Mar 26 to May 24th

It clearly is something allowed again, and I just have no idea why some offices have no issues but others just won't do it.

Sorry, I can't figure it out at all.

Today I have gone to the immigration at chaeng wattana and i have a non B covid extension visa. I showed them this form and she said that this is not applicable and can only be done for 30 days🙁.

Can we get extension at any other immigration office or should we go to the same office
Ellie *******
@Sai **********
, You need to go to the immigration office where your address is registered with TM30. You cannot pick offices "freely".
Sai ***********
I got mine at chaeng wattana so I have gone to same place. And they said that they will do it only if I have an embassy letter since covid is finished now.
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Sai **********
well there you go then, it is what it is, remember covid extensions were always at the discretion of the issuing officer/office
Jennifer ********
Do you know if it also applies to a 15 day VOA ?
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Jennifer *******
, I do not, you'd have to check with the immigration office, OR see if that country's embassy will issue a letter to get the 30 day embassy request extension

ATTENTION MEMBERS ON Non-Imm visa/extensions

It appears there's some confusion as to whether Non-Immigrant type visa/extension holders can or can't get covid extensions under this program. (or possibly I was confused reading the new order)

A member today
@Sean ******
went to the immigration office and got an under consideration stamp from a non-immigrant type visa/extension

I'd suggest anyone on ANY type of Non-Immigrant type visas or extensions to go to their immigration office and see if you can get a covid extension or not.
Veit ********
@Tod ********
woah, is this real? So without divulging the actual office, you are saying that people who were on ED at some point might have a chance? Sean, I'll send you a pm to find out more.
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Veit *******
I divulged the office, Chaengwatttana and the person had a Non-B visa extension. They tried to apply friday, were told they couldn't but to come back monday because the policy changed between the old covid program expiring (Mar 25) and the new program starting (Mar 26th)

They successfully got a 30 day under consideration stamp
Joel ********
If I am coming off a Non -imm work permit visa at the end of April, will I be able to apply for a covid extenstion ? side note I do have a plane ticket to go back home in June
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Joel *******
you SHOULD be able to cancel your Non-B extension and immediately apply for a covid extension at the immigration office where you got the work extension.
Joel ********
@Tod ********
thank you
Joel ********
@Robert ******
so will I have to leave the country to get back in a tourist visa then ?
Robert *******
@Joel *******
That is an option if you like to stay a few more months as a tourist.
Veit ********
Anyone who had to change to an ED visa sometime in the middle of the Covid show been able to get another Covid extension today with the new rules? I know it's unlikely and early, but it would be awesome if this silly arbitrary rule was scrapped. I'll probably try on Monday here in BKK.
Tod *********

@Veit *******
looks like people CAN indeed get covid extensions from non-imm visa/extensions on this progam
Veit ********
@Tod ********
yes, and without your help and this amazing group I might have never known. Will be at an immigration office tomorrow morning and report back here. Looking good. I owe you.
Gil *****
@Veit *******
How did it go?
Veit ********
@Gil ****
ah, I had given Tod detailed report directly after but forgot about this comment. I got the 15 day under consideration but only after a long time and quite some pleading.
Gil *****
@Veit *******
Thank you for taking the time to report your experience.
David ***********
what about a 7 day extension, is that also possible?
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@David **********
that is actually a 7 day application for extension denied and gives you a week to get out of thailand. They are not obligated to give that stamp to you and some offices require you show your ticket out in a week to get it
Jess *********
Those people that had Non B visas when covid hit that then moved on to covid extension who have been charged 1900 baht for 7 day extension because they have to leave the country and re enter… do we still have to do this? Or can we extend that 7 day extension in Thailand?

I got told all this yesterday at Phang nga immigration… had a funny feeling they would end up doing this 🤯
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Jess ********
it appears that this new program IS allowing people who hold a non-immigrant type visa or extension to apply for a covid extension, check with your immigration office
Jess *********
Even after being issued with the 7 day extension?
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Jess ********
all you can do is go to your immigration office and check. As a rule that "7 day stamp" means you leave in a week, and you get NO slack at all (you can't apply for another extension from it) BUT what's the harm in going out and asking them? I mean the worst they can say is no and you leave when the stamp is up like you are planning to anyway.
Sean *******
I was told to come back Monday and assured I would not receive and overstayed fee.
Ryan ********
@Sean ******
you have received an under consideration stamp for a COVID extension on a NON-B, is that right?
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Ryan *******
nope, he was sent away

As his stamp expires on the weekend, he was told to come back monday. They did not take his money, not take his passport not take his application, he just shows up monday to apply.

AND because his stamp expires on the weekend he wouldn't get an overstay fine doing it monday
Ryan ********
@Tod ********
so if your visa expires on a saturday, so you apply for an extension on Monday and get the the “stamp of death” the 7 days will start from that Monday right?
Sean *******
@Ryan *******
they stammped my application that Friday with the received date but when they asked if I had an embassy letter, I explained the USA is not issueing embassy letters they said come back Monday because they said there will be a new policy coming out Monday.
Ryan ********
@Sean ******

in theory it starts from the date you apply, BUT seeing as you're applying with an expired stamp (even though the office was closed) there's no telling how the issuing officer will do it. Could start the date you apply, could start the date your previous stamp expired.

you shouldn't have even been allowed to apply for a covid extension from a Non-B visa/extension 😕

Ciaran McNeill here's a PRO TIP 😉

NEVER EVER believe an embassy OUTSIDE of thailand about anything to do with things inside thailand at an immigration office

AND

NEVER EVER believe an immigration office INSIDE thailand about anything to do with things outside thailand at an embassy

Two completely different gov't agencies that seem like they don't ever communicate
Sasi **************
I was in immigration 2 days ago they said no Covid extension for STV for now if I want to extend only 7days and have to go out of Thailand But Thay also made me confused because they said (Or wait for after 25 March they will announce for STV But not sure!🙄)
Sasi **************
Thx

It's totally office specific I'd go back and try again, STV's are allowed to get covid extensions, there is nothing in the rules that says they can't.

Amazing, complaining about Thai Immigration because you are unable to decide which visa fits your purpose of stay and all Immigration does, is giving you 60 days longer to think about how to solve your problems. Remember all countries are opening up and flying around gets more easy every day.
Laurent ********
@James *******
Do they charge you 1900 bahts for 7 days?

yes..all extensions are 1,900 Thai baht

Friend had a weird situation at Phang-nga immigration yesterday. Said covid extensions weren’t a thing anymore and was given 30 days only (even though they had already had their 30 day standard extension). Looking at the stamp it seems like a standard covid extension stamp, but for only 30 days. Same happened to a friend in Bangkok, but another friend who went at the same time in Bangkok got 60 days…

Any ideas what happened there
@Tod ********
? 😂

not correct at all. NOW if you did just enter the country you HAVE to take your 30 day regular extension first before you can get a 60 day covid extension (as a general rule)

This is insane. I went today.. lost now a total of 5-6 weeks 😅 but according to the officer I didn't lose as I GOT something 🤗 yeah. Thank you Thailand
Shaun *********
@Elisabeth *********
you were very lucky they extended with you having
***
weeks left on your current visa. Some immigration offices tell you to come back a few days nearer the expiry date. This isn't the first time the covid extension has been extended at the last hour.
John **********
@Elisabeth *********
I take it this was your first extension for being unable to travel? They invariably start on the day you apply. Don't look on it as losing weeks, rather you gained weeks and an opportunity to have a second go in 60 days time
Elisabeth **********
@John *********
no it was not. They told me when I applied that it's gonna be from the day that mine expires but today the stamp didn't do exactly that. I asked but they said "no, it's the new rules".. now I think about going back right now and try to talk it through again. Not sure
John **********
@Elisabeth *********
where were you? Many immigration offices require you are in the last 30 days of your current permission to stay date. Maybe they did you a favour?
Lei *****************
@Elisabeth *********
hi, which immigration office did you process your covid extension? My friend went to MTT today and got 60 days validity counted from her visa stamp and not from today’s date. Just sharing.
Min *****
@Elisabeth *********
is it based on the time you requested extension?
Elisabeth **********
@Min ****
yes 😥

But show me a normal person that waits until the last day 2pm and go to apply absolutely last minute 😅 they could have done the announcement at 5pm as well, in any case most people would have run there by today early morning.
Nasim ****
@Elisabeth *********
hi 👋 may I ask which office this was? I understand in phuket and samui it starts when your current visa runs out (not grant date). That sucks for you though!
Elisabeth **********
@Nasim ***
I was at the same office as I was all the last times and it always extended from the expiration day. I'm going back and see if I can do something. My main issue is also that my passport runs out of pages and I'm waiting for documents from my home country for a proper visa, until then I need to stretch time with the least amount of pages possible.
Min *****
@Elisabeth *********
are you sure it is not just an “under consideration” stamp. You can go back for the full 60 days
