Asked in another thread,

what are the requirements for thai child visa?

I've been on extension of stay for marriage for last 6 years but we have a child so was wondering if the requirements for child are "easier"

TLDR : Answer Summary
The requirements for a Thai child visa, particularly for those with a half-Thai child, are similar to those for a marriage extension of stay. The primary difference lies in the financial requirements, as extensions based on raising a half-Thai child do not have a seasoning requirement for the financial proof (400K baht in a bank account). Additionally, applying for the child visa may require more documentation related to the child's schooling.

could you detail the differences between visa and extension of stay for 1) guardian visa for half-Thai child and 2) visa for international school? I am interested in the differences in applying for the initial visa, and the extension. thanks.

Tod thanks so much. I appreciate your time to explain what might seem obvious.

there is no difference between supporting a half thai child visa/extension and one bases on a half thai child going to an international school

You would need 400K baht in a bank account or proof you get 40K baht a month in income..

Thank you. What I am curious about is if the financial requirements are less stringent for the extension of stay at the ampur office, as opposed to do the guardian of a student at an inter school. the financial requirement for doing the inter school visa is a challenge for me, so i am thinking it might be preferable to do the one at the amphur office. thanks for any info.

If you are the legal father of the child, recognized by Ampur or Family court than you can apply for the Extension of Stay based on having a half Thai Child.

the half-Thai child attends the international school and the parent gets the visa. sorry not clear.

what do you mean a "visa for an international school' ? WHO is going to the international school?
Robert *******
Main difference is a Visa you get a Thai Consulate, depending on where it will be Single Entry and you have 90 days of stay inside Thailand or 1 year Multiple Entry where you have to do border runs every 90 days. Extension of Stay is normally 1 year and you get at the Immigration Office and you report if you stay inside Thailand every 90 days at the office. A visa for an International School means you also have to study at the school.

An extension of stay based on supporting a half thai child (assuming the child was born after you were married OR you got granted legal parental rights of the child from the family court of local amphur) requires almost exactly the same paperwork as one based on marriage to a thai.

The extension goes under consideration for 30 days before you go back and get it inked into your passport.

The ONLY difference between one based on marriage and one based on raising a half thai child IS in the financial requirements. There is no seasoning requirements for the 400K baht banked money method for extensions based on raising half thai children. (Although some immigration offices will twist your arm and say there is, believe me there is NOT)...

It also takes a few more photos and documents for an extension based on a half thai child (them in their school uniform in front of the school, etc)

there is some confusion (by immigration officers and people at the amphur) about having a thai child without being married to the mother when the child is born BUT then marrying the mother after the birth.

In those situations people have gotten yearly extensions without having going thru family court or the local amphur to get granted legal parental rights.

My advice would be go to the immigration office and check to see what they say.

@Robert ******
- thanks. Will do.

Visit with your wife the local Amphur and ask if you can get the legal documents there, this is depending on age of the child. If not visit a lawyer and he/she will arrange all at the Family court.

David Broadfoot - can you pm me and explain exactly what I need to do to ensure I am his legal father.
David *******
@Robert ******
- so you are saying that since my son was born before we were married I need to go to either Family Court or her Amphur to be recognized as the legal father. Sorry for all the questions.
Robert *******
That is something you do when you get a child in Thailand and you are not married.
David *******
Robert Lagas - this is something you get after a divorce? Or if applying for a support Visa?
Robert *******
@David ******
The document from the Amphur or the Family court that recognize you as the legal father.
David *******
@Robert ******
- how do you define legal father? My son is 1 year old, I am listed on the birth certificate, we were married after his birth, he has my last name and we are both listed in the family book. Am I missing something?
Robert *******
@David ******
No, you must be the legal father or recognized by the Ampur or the Family Court, this depends on age.
David *******
@Tod ********
- why would it matter if the child was born after you were married? Is it not sufficient to be named as the father on the birth certificate?

@Tod ********
thanks Tod, did not know that. I have based on

child but they always ask for the 400k and never photos of my daughter at school. They do ask for her to be in the house photos though. Good to know
