Hi everyone,

I'm on a DTV and live in Phuket but currently in Chiang Mai until mid next week. I'm considering doing a quick border run while I'm up here since I know Chiang Mai has easy access to the Laos border.

My situation:

- Not urgent (still have plenty of time on my current 180-day stamp)

- But this seems like a good opportunity while I'm already in the north

- I’ve been reading that in-country extensions are proving difficult in both Phuket and Chiang Mai, with immigration often directing people to border runs anyway

- Looking to do it quickly - ideally a same-day service

Questions:

1. Can anyone recommend reliable border run companies operating from Chiang Mai to Chiang Khong/Huay Xai?

2. What's the current cost and timing? (I've seen ~2,500 THB mentioned for 8-hour trips)

3. Any recent experiences or tips for this route?

4. Is it worth doing now vs. waiting and flying to Malaysia/Cambodia from Phuket later?

Appreciate any advice or recommendations! 🙏

My six month is almost up and im gonna head to Laos for the border run. Can I just book a couple nights in Udon Thani, cross the border same day, and come back to Thailand? Or should I stay in Laos 1-2 days and then come back?

I have a question. I have already got a 30 days extension for my non o visa stay permit after my first 60 days stay permit. now I wanted to know if there is any other way except a border run and re entry to get another extension or get a visa because I see that flying to another country may be more expensive than just extending the stay permit. I would appreciate any kind of help. And another question : is there a minimum amount of days that I have to stay in the border countries or can I basically return the next day to Thailand getting the 60 days permit again in the sense of a 1-day tour if they ask ?

DTV - Does anyone know if you need to leave Thailand for 5 days during a second consecutive border run? Is it 180 + 180 = 360 days per year allowed for DTV?

Hi everyone, I just got my DTV visa approved with Soft Power (cooking school). I got the approval while I am currently staying in Thailand with tourist visa exemption (90days). I know this is not the best practice, but I had to do that for family emergency reasons.

I guess I will just have to do a border run to activate the DTV. Looking for people who did that and were not having problems! 😂 Hope everything will go smoothly 🙏 thanks

Well my tourist visa runs out on the 26th september.Got flight to the UK,but nowhere to go.

Done my 60 days arrival stamp ,then 30 day stamp at immigration and then went to laos and got another 60 days and then again immigration for another 30 =180.

My question is if I left thailand to go to laos for say 3 days will I be allowed back in thailand?

Just yes or no would be good.

O yes I have a street food shop and property with my thai girlfriend.

Hi Everyone

Background:

As I was returning to Australia in March this year I allowed my O-A Retirement Visa extension to lapse in February 2025.

I did a border run in February and returned under the Visa Exemption option for 3 weeks. I then exited Thailand on 8 March and returned to Australia.

I returned to Thailand in July for 3 weeks, again on a Visa Exemption.

My next 2 week visit on a Visa Exemption is planned for November this year.

Therefore in summary, that would total 3 visa exemptions (if granted) and approximately 9 weeks of staying in Thailand this year.

All exits/entries were and will be done through BKK Airport.

(BTW-Next year I will be re-applying for my O-A visa in Australia before returning to Thailand on a long term basis.)

Question please:

Do you think there is a high-medium risk that my 3rd Thailand Visa Exemption entry will not be granted?

If so, I may bring my O-A visa application forward.

TIA.
