I have just come to Thailand and in the quarantine hotel, the consulate does not give an annual visa at the moment, so I only have 3 months. But am married, how many months can I extend in Thailand without depositing 400,000 Baht. There is also a 1 year multi entry annual visa. ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Peter Mollenhauer has just arrived in Thailand and is currently in a quarantine hotel. He notes that the consulate is not issuing annual visas at the moment, leaving him with only a 3-month Non-O visa. He inquires about the duration he can extend his stay without needing to deposit 400,000 Baht, considering he is married. Responses clarify the distinction between obtaining a visa and extending a stay, indicating that a year-long extension based on marriage typically requires proof of funds. Alternatively, he could apply for a 60-day family extension, which does not require this proof. Given the current closure of borders to neighboring countries, obtaining a long-term visa is complicated, and he is advised that depositing the required funds in a Thai bank two months before applying for the extension is a safe approach.

Savanaket Thai consulate only, no question ask, no appointment, married get visa 1 year 5000bts, they say no need but better bring the wife, of course this was before ...

not possible. BORDERS ARE CLOSED.

And with that commenting is closed.

We wish the OP success in obtaining his one year extension.

And as the borders are closed to neighboring SE Asian Thai Consulates - you are not able to obtain the one year Multi-entry Non O visa you have had before obtained in Savannakhet or Ho Chi Minh City with no financial proof of funds..

If they were to reopen... then you may be able to obtain it.

But its questionable if they will be re opened to do that in coming months.

Your safe bet is to put 400,000 Thai baht into your own name at a Thai bank two months before making application for the one year extension.

Absence of doing that you will need to get a job with a Thai work permit, a correct visa for your stay, or have to leave once again.

Good Luck...Welcome back to Thailand. You will soon be reunited with your Thai family.

For the OP, you came in on a type O short term visa for 90 days. There is another option, and actually the correct option, you should and can do. You meet the first requirement in applying for the long term type O/Thai wife marriage visa extension after you got to Thailand. You can not apply for this long term extension outside of Thailand. Within these 90 days go to immigration with your Thai wife, and your marriage certificates, there are two, and use form Tm7 and apply for your long term Type O Thai wife extension. If they accept it, and they will with your wife there, and your marriage certificates, you will get another 90 day extension, that gives you enough time to get all the documents you need, and meet the first application financial requirements, that incidentally require bt400k in a Thai bank account in your name only for at least 2 months, OR, deposits coming from overseas of at least bt40k a month for at least 2 months into your bank account this first time. After this first extension you will need bt400k in your bank for at least 3 months, OR deposits of at least bt40k for all of the last 12 months, and they do not average the amounts anymore like they used to, so you can not miss a month, and the next month deposit double. It has to be above bt40k every month. When you go to get this extension with your wife, they will give you a list of all the documents you need to get to complete this application process. At the very least, this is a way you can extend your current type O 90 day visa for another 90 days, for bt1900.

@Kool ******
oops...the 40,000 Thai monthly deposits MUST BE for 12 prior months...NOT 2.

@James *******
a quick question, does the 400k have to be in a "stand alone" account, with no activity, or can it be in my normal account once I keep the account balance above 400k at all times. The account is in my name only. Thanks.

@Graeme **********
as long as you have a Thai bank account in your name only with at least 400,000 Thai baht in it for two months before your extension application you should be OK.

BTW. .the 400,000 funds only need to be in the account two months before application and remain there while your application is UNDER CONSIDERATION ...

normal is for one month more.

Then you can use the funds...keeo the account open.. And top it up at least two months before your next one year extension.

@James *******
thanks. One more quick one, I'm on a non-o m.e. (Savannahket). Beginning of next month I will apply for a 60 family visit extension and from this extension, apply for the yearly extension. Do you see any problems with this?

@Graeme **********
, last answer for you on this thread :O you shouldn't have a problem applying for the 60 day visit thai family extension as long as your imigration office will issue it. I'd say BEFORE you're going to show up and apply, head over there with your thai wife, make sure you can do it and make sure you know the list of documents.

IF you get that extension it should be dated as starting from the 27th of Sept (and good until about Nov 25th)

@Graeme **********
lets ask
@Tod ********
. I think your plan is OK. BUT the 400,000 need to be seasoned full two months.

You are confusing VISAS <- that you get from a thai consulate in another country (and are sold as single/90 day or multiple/year long) with getting an extension of stay inside the country.

There is no way to get a year extension without meeting the proof of funds :/

You are here on a 90 day Non-O visa and extension wise you have two options:

Meet the requirements and apply for a yearly extension of stay based on marriage (financial and document wise)

OR

Apply for a 60 day visit thai family extension based on marriage which doesn't require proof of funds.
Ellie *******
David Broadfoot there is no 'regular" 30 days extension for Non-O entry..
Steven ***********
How many months before you apply do you need to show proof of funds. ie monthly deposit. for first time marriage extension after getting a Non o and then getting into Thailand and applying.
Ellie *******
@Steven **********
you need proof of monthly deposit (40K/month) for 12months or for 2months of 400K.

Last time I had a 1 year visa, out and back in every 90 days. Had to present an account statement with 5000 euros plus at the consulate.

Again,
@Peter ************
you are confusing a visa you bought from a thai consulate in another country before you came here (and which was a year long, multi-entry one) with the 90 day single entry Non-O you have now.

There is no place to go to get the visa you used to have.

You got stamped in for 90 days on the visa you entered the country with. That means you use one of the extension options I mentioned
