ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS:

At this time <-(meaning right now) the police order allowing people to apply for 60 day "covid" extensions runs out on January 29th. That means until the government announces different that is the last day you can apply for a 60 day unable to travel due to covid extension.

We do not know if or when this police order will be extended, BUT going on previous history from the government it seems they do it very close to the expiration date of the current order.

As soon as we hear anything official we will pass the information on.

We will not let posts asking about if/when this current police order will be extended and we will not let posts like "I heard it from a friend, who, heard it from a friend, who, heard it from another blah-blah-blah.." (Which reminds me of an REO Speedwagon song ;) :P ).

When a new police order is out OR when this current one is extended you will be the first to know after us :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The current police order allowing applications for a 60-day "COVID" visa extension is set to expire on January 29th, with no announcement yet on its potential extension. It is advisable for individuals with stamps expiring on that date to apply for the extension before then. Applications can be made at various immigration offices, and the need for an embassy letter is contingent upon whether the embassy issues one. Discussions and questions from members include the eligibility for different visa categories, procedures to apply, and whether any second extensions are possible.

Can all visa categories be extended (for example, ED visa)?
Keven ****
Yeah, understood the cancel ED extension part. Was simply replying to your question of why I wasn't doing another ED extension. From what I understand you can do ED extensions up until 12 months...

This extension makes it 12 months of ED/extensions. Is it possible to extend past 12 months (with the COVID situation)?

, what part of you CANCEL your ED extension using paperwork from your school stating you stop studying the day this extension runs out did you not understand? :/

You wouldn't be ON an ED extension anymore, it would be cancelled and you'd be on a 60 day covid extension.
Keven ****
Yes, on 90-day extensions. Thanks for the input!

Unless I'm mistaken
@Keven ***
in order to get a 60 day covid extension you'd have to cancel your current ED extension with a letter from your school and then you could apply for it.

Why not just get another ED extension with documents from your school instead?

@Keven ***
what do you mean? Are you currently on an ED VISA <- the 90 day stamp from the visa OR are you on an extension of stay based on education?

If you're on an extension based on education you have to cancel it with a letter from your school, THEN you can apply for a 60 day covid extension

Thank you Tod! And Thank you Ben!

Thank you for this Tod and apologies in advance if you answered to that question already: which office should I go in Bangkok for the Covid 19 extension and do I need to make an appointment in advance? Thank you!

if you came in on a visa exempt entry or a 60 day tourist visa entry (back before the lock down) you got to the Muang Thong Thani Immigration office. If you came in on a Non-Immigrant Type visa you go to Chaengwattana.

Is this extension possible with a TR visa?
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Luca ******
, yep totally can do it as long as you do it on or before the 29th of Jan right now
Rasmus ************
But need a embassy letter right? Or just passport and 1900 Baht , can do any immigration in Thailand?🤔
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Rasmus ***********
if your embassy issues the letter you need it, if they don't issue it you don't need it.

if you can prove you stay in the area served by the immigration office you are using you can apply there for the extension.

And all extensions in the country no matter the amount of time they're issued for are always 1900baht

Props for the REO Speedwagon reference.

Thanks Tod

So, does this mean we can still apply for a 60 days extension UP UNTIL 29 Jan? i.e. my stamp is 29 Jan, so I should go to immigration on 28 Jan?
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
Correct (y) it means as of now
@Ke***
you need to apply on or by that date. You can go early if you want to..
Mei ******
@Tod ********
my stamp is Feb 5th, TR visa, how far in advance can I go to immigration for extension? also the extension starts counting from Feb 5th or from the date I apply. Thanks in advance.
Tod *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Mei *****
totally depends on the immigration office, some let you go 45 days or less before your current stamp runs out, some let you go 30 days or less before your current stamp runs out.

AND

some start the extension on the date you apply but most add the extension to the existing expiration date. GO to your immigration office and ask them OR post on a f/b page related to where you live in thailand and ask, you'll get responses for sure

@Tod ********
got another question, does the covid extension or just the regular 30day TR extension have any impact on my getting a ED visa down the road? thanks.
Mei ******
@Tod ********
thanks. much appreciated.
