Can I Get a 30-Day Extension on a Tourist Visa After Entering Thailand on Amnesty?

It appears to be a confirmed fact (because people are being turned away at immigration offices all over the country)

IF you entered on a 30 day visa exempt entry OR a 60 day tourist visa entry BUT went on amnesty you CANNOT get a 30 day extension now even if you never got the first 30 day extension you were "entitled" to apply for.

The second you went on amnesty you lost that ability

IF anyone has gone to their immigration office on a 30 day visa exempt entry OR a 60 day tourist visa entry that is on amnesty and got a 30 day extension please report it here

TLDR : Answer Summary
An important update for expats in Thailand: If you entered the country on a 30-day visa exempt entry or a 60-day tourist visa, and subsequently went on amnesty, you are currently ineligible for a 30-day extension. Reports indicate that individuals in this situation are being turned away at immigration offices nationwide. Even if you hadn’t previously applied for the 30-day extension you were entitled to, entering into amnesty means you have forfeited that right. However, there are variations in practice between different immigration offices, and some users have reported successful extensions in unique circumstances. The community is advised to stay informed for any future official announcements regarding extensions as the current amnesty period draws to a close.

and we are done. I am not gonna run herd over the thread to keep it on track.

It would appear that while some immigration offices ARE saying people could get the 30 day extension they are being told to come back closer to the expiration of amnesty.

Good Luck one and all, IF you are on amnesty, sit tight, wait for the announcement

(immigration volunteer in Chiang Mai) is saying tourist/visa exempt extensions ARE possible in Chiang Mai.

He said on the thread in Chiang Mai News in English it does apply to people on amnesty. Not if you had extended already- but if you hadn't, and went on amnesty, should still have that extension available to you.

I tagged him here so he could maybe chime in with the details, and whether this definitely applies to people who are already on amnesty.

That is because the 'Amnesty' is just a pardon for overstay and not an extension of any visas. Have to wait and see what the 31st July announcement is.

which means you can't get ANY extension at all until they make an announcement about what amnesty holders to because 90 day visa exempt entry holders (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and South Korea) can't get extensions

does that mean UK citizens can and only three countries can’t? I have an appointment on 31 July to try for the extension.

, NO one is getting a 30 day extension from a 30 day visa exempt or a 60 day tourist visa entry who went on amnesty right NOW.

No one knows if they are going to make an announcement about it or not

has just made an appointment in BKK selecting the options to extend a tourist visa. They have option online to say why you want to go. I have it for 31 July. I will keep you informed to what happens.

I entered with the 60 day tourist visa on 20 Feb, went to amnesty and extended 30 days on 8 July until 7 Aug.

I did so because Amphoe ask me to have a "legal" passport in order to get married. So i explain that to immigration in Chaenng Wattana and they have no problem to extend it.

It really does feel like there will be a solution to this which will be announced soon. Not great for the blood pressure waiting for it, tho

Is this because there is something else coming to extend stay when the amnesty ends?
