TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thai Consulate in Penang is currently closed, and there is uncertainty regarding its reopening. Discussions among community members suggest that it might reopen on April 9th, but if it does not, individuals may need to determine their visa options. Specifically, questions arise about getting a 30-day entry stamp through land entry for US and Italian passport holders, with some concerns that it may only be 15 days.

Hey folks, it looks like the office will reopen on Monday but if it doesn’t for some reason, can we get a 30 day entry stamp via entry by land (US and Italian passports) or do we need to fly? I had heard they sometimes give 15 days via land. Thanks!

They stopped giving 15 day visa exempt entries back on Dec 31, 2016. Now you get a 30day visa exempt entry BUT you can only have TWO by land in a calendar year

Mr. Anel Sharma, one of the only two official agents registered at Penang Consulate, just said that offices could re-open on Monday 9th April.
Waiting till tomorrow for an official confirmation.
In Penang now. Spoke to Jim. He said he doesnt know when they will open. He suspects after songkran. Which is bad news for us. If that happens we will fly back and hope to get a 30 day stamp at the airport😑
