What are the rules for obtaining a Non-O visa in Thailand regarding TM.30 registration?

Just an FYI;

I just had an acquaintance knocked back (denied) a 90 day Non-O visa out at Chaengwattana.

He met the financials and other requirements

BUT

because he "lives" at a hotel without a long term rental agreement (and without anything but a receipt every month) coupled with the fact the hotel had failed to file the online TM.30 form when he checked in he was denied because he could not prove he was really "living" where he has stayed year after year every time he comes to thailand.

They did say to go get the hotel to write a rental contract stating he rents there. They suggested he border bounce as a way to get out of the fail to file a TM.30 in 24 hours 1600baht fine too.

They said with a TM.30 on record (filed within the appropriate time) AND a rental contract he could re-apply.

They weren't mean about it at all, he just didn't meet the burden of proof to show them he really did "live" there.

Moral of the story; IF you long-stay at a guesthouse or a hotel make sure they've filed the TM.30 form on you (even in bangkok)...

This was the very first case of a TM.30 form being asked for that I'd ever seen in bangkok BUT keep in mind it was NOT for an extension of stay but a 90 day Non-O visa..

TLDR : Answer Summary
An acquaintance was denied a 90-day Non-O visa due to the lack of proof of residency. Even though he met the financial and other requirements, his hotel had not filed the TM.30 form when he checked in, and he could not provide a rental contract. Immigration officials suggested securing a written rental agreement from the hotel and ensuring that the TM.30 is filed promptly to re-apply. This highlights the importance of proper documentation when applying for long-stay visas in Thailand.

While extending my SETV at Kanchanaburi Immigration, they couldn't find me on the system, I hadn't been correctly registered by my hotel. After trying and failing to get in touch with the hotel over the phone, I was advised to walk around the side to the TM30 registration office (not sure of correct name but that's what they do) Nice lady there asked me a couple of questions, updated my status on the system and handed me a registered certificate to take back to immigration main office. A little patience and a smile goes a long way to getting a little extra help. In and out in less than 30 mins

and here is a link from Eddie Chan which explains how to do TM30 online.

Could you write in thai a request that could shown to staff asking for them to fill a TM30

so anyone staying in Bangkok or anywhere else in Thailand can show it to the staff to make sure they fill the TM30.

Next thing you know immigration might want it for a extension of stay.

Could save a lot of people handing over 1600bt๐Ÿ‘

I was asked for my TM30 for the first time ever when doing my 90 day report in person at Samut Prakan a couple of weeks ago. Seems 'Big Joke' has them stirred up a bit.

I can say with 100% certainty that a proof of TM.30 is NOT required in Bangkok for ANY type of extension of stay <- AT THIS TIME (and by that I mean as of thursday ;) )..

I had friends get an ED, an O-retirement, a re-entry permit & a 30 day visa exempt extensions out there and none of them were asked for a TM.30 receipt.. Nor is it required for 90 day reports either.

i always stay for a month in Bangkok before I go on my travels for the next 2 months only got my 30 day extension in Bangkok twice never been asked for the TM30 there

And i guess the rest of the time it's been filled.

But you never know

So everyone make sure it is.

Tell your friends...

, do you have the link to that thai immigration video about the TM.30?

Other people suggest just go to another hotel one night and then go back and do a TM 30 online.

Just curious, why "living" in Thailand for a 90-day visa? Don't people who stay 'only' 90 days in Thailand usually stay at hotels? And what hotel gives you a rental contract in writing?

You need a Non-Immigrant Type visa to apply for a yearly extension of stay.

He was going (or trying to go) from a single entry tourist visa, to a 90 day Non-Immigrant Type O visa (based on being over 50 - retirement) then to a year long extension of stay based on retirement).

He was at the first step in the process :/
