Remember, when you apply for a year extension based on marriage to a Thai national you get a 30-day under consideration stamp and you have to go back to that immigration office 30 days later to get the year extension inked in.

And there's a good chance that they could do a home visit during that under consideration. As well.

So I wouldn't pick up and move provinces until you get the year extension inked in (or of you do move know you have to go back to get that year inked in when the u/c stamp runs down)

Then once you do move all you file is a TM 30 and then start doing your 90-day reporting at the office that serves the area where you live and then the following year apply for your extension through them.

At most offices you can apply for an extension when you have 30 days or less left on your current stamp, SOME offices like Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Chiang Mai, Phuket etc allow you to apply when you have 45 days or less left on your stamp.

Unless you're changing the reason for your extension (like marriage to retirement or retirement to marriage) all extensions are added to the expiration date you have now. <-Meaning you don't lose any time applying early.

the fee for visas from the thai consulate in New Zealand is the most expensive in the whole world :O :(

I always recommend to most people just come here free stamp then go to a nearby country and get the visa you're after (other than an OA which you have to get in your country) even with the travel, lodging and visa price it'll be cheaper than the cost of buying that visa in New Zealand

depending on the Visa but most of the requirements ask for 3 months of bank statement with the required balance on at least the last statement

The rest are all online payment

I mentioned that in the post

It's quiet because all you can do at that consulate is show up (after you applied for the visa and got the QR code) to pay.

There is no go apply, go pick up the passport. You can't even get IN the consulate if you don't have a QR showing you want to pay

As a general rule there is no issue at all going and getting the statement / bank letter from a bank branch where you didn't open the account.

unless you're applying for a Non-Immigrant Type OA (Long Stay) visa (which you get in your country before you come here) you can go to a nearby country and apply thru the thai consulate there

Keep in mind though some thai consulates require you to hold legal residence in that country to apply for the visa (like the thai consulates in China, and I think Hong Kong, and maybe Japan too)
