What are the requirements and process for obtaining a DTV visa in Thailand?

Submitted application on 16 July and was approved today for DTV. (I applied for Thai soft power). Just follow the instructions per your embassy location and I think you’ll be fine. I think the cost is determined by your location as well. It’s going to be more than 10K THB at most places I think. Good luck to all the others!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reported successfully obtaining their DTV visa (Thai soft power visa) after applying on July 16 and getting approval shortly thereafter. They emphasized the importance of following the instructions specific to their embassy location and mentioned costs varying by location, likely exceeding 10,000 THB. Community members inquired about the visa requirements, specifically regarding the necessity of medical documents, the type of soft power activities accepted (like medical treatment, cooking classes, etc.), and whether multiple medical appointments are needed for visa approval. It appears a single medical appointment sufficed for this user, highlighting a trend of simplified procedures in the visa application process. Discussions also touched on application costs, with one user indicating it cost them $400 USD.

Please check before commenting. Whatever you ask, and whatever OP would kindly answer, Unless you are applying for exactly the same category through the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Chicago, that information could be irrelevant to your next application.

If you want to ask about DTV at different locations or different categories even through Chicago, comment on the active DTV post by Tod Daniels, not here.

Wish this were available a decade or so ago. I worked 6 months in the States and then back here for 6. Nice to see more options.

Did they ask for a tax form too?

not needed for soft power. Some embassies request tax return if you enter under the employment options.

I'm curious as to some of these will play out. I mean, one appointment and you got a 5 year visa? Will they require another to re-enter after you leave? Will they ask for ongoing medical care in the future? Remember, folks, any visa can be revoked. I hope it never happens to anyone, however I just can't see immigration being so lax on these.

Agree. Seems bizarre. Wonder what medical appointment they accept. See a doctor for a stuffy nose?

Hi, is it possible to get it without sending the passport?

that stamp is what will deny you the visa. Keep it Simple...go to Thai Embassy or Consulate in SE Asian country that offers the DTV. Look at their requirements for it. Meet them and get the visa.

Thank you. I understand about the proof of residence, that's why I mentioned "if they meet all the requirements", so only the passport stamp that proves you left Thailand could be a problem.

Anyway, this is purely for information, as I have a valid legal visa based on marriage.

you must show residence in the country where you are applying from. AND passport stamps are uploaded in the application.

I have a theoretical question: How does someone from the embassy know where someone is applying from?

The application is done electronically, so anyone can apply from wherever they want if they meet all the requirements?

Even if they have software or simply recognize the IP address, can a VPN be used and thus "mask" the IP?

nope...the DTV visa CANNOT be applied for inside Thailand. Look at your home country Thai Embassy or Consulate website for their requirements for the DTV visa.

Or another Thai Embassy or Consulate outside of Thailand for their requirements for the DTV visa.

he used to Evisa online application system. Upon approval, the visa is sent to you in an email. No visit to Embassy or Consulate. No sending passport into the Thai Embassy or Consulate. Save the email with the Thai Evisa in it, print it out and show it to Thai Immigration Officers upon arrival.

I have no clue at all. I assume that it may be possible with ongoing medical care for preexisting conditions...but a single appointment... got the expat who shared this with us...I think there's no more to the story. BUT I respect the possible confidentiality of the reason for the medical care.

honestly it’s no different than the other items. A cooking class for a week, seminars, or a one time musical event and you get 5 year Visa😊 Keep this in mind…the Thai government didn’t create this Visa to keep people out 😊

so you can just schedule a simple medical appointment and then get a 5 yr visa? Did you just find something medical for purpose of making the visa? Just curious if that’s totally doable

Dru it would be really helpful to know some details of the medical appointment document. Was it a single appointment, or the first of many? I guess the big question everyone wants to know is, in the US, does the visa get issued for a single medical appointment, or a series and if the later how many over what period. Cheers
