Will my non-ED student visa be automatically canceled if I leave Thailand without a re-entry visa and can I apply for a DTV afterward?

Holding a non-ED student visa. If I leave Thailand without re-entry visa, my student visa got automatically canceled. So, I won't have to go immigration to officially cancel it before applying DTV.

Correct ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The query addresses the implications of leaving Thailand on a non-ED (student) visa without obtaining a re-entry visa, raising concern about whether this action would cause automatic cancellation of the student visa. Responses clarify that the individual might actually be on an extension of stay rather than a real visa, and that they can leave and obtain a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) without issues, without needing to cancel their student visa at immigration first.

Ask your local Immigration Office for precise guidance.

Doubt you're on ANY real VISA and it's much more likely you're actually here on an "extension of stay" based on education <- LOOK at the stamp in your passport it should say "extension of stay permitted until" and have a date you can stay until

You can just leave on that stamp, go get a DTV and come back without any issue at all

No need to go to the immigration office and cancel it before you leave

you need to cancel your ED visa before applying for the DTV

@Mathew *******
you are confused, the O/P is NOT on a valid VISA, they are here on an extension of stay and even WITH a re-entry permit there's no issue going out of the country to get a DTV

Many MANY people have done exactly that <- left the country with a valid ED extension gotten their DTV and came back without any issue at all

plz stop spreading false information. Any student has to cancel ed visa before leaving th. If not, this could be a reason for being rejected from dtv. He needs letter from school then go cancel then leave.

Anonymous participant 237 many MANY people kept their ED extensions and went to a thai consulate in another country to get a DTV, without any problem what so ever

Anonymous participant 237 Tod is correct, if you're on an extension of stay and you leave without a re-entry permit as soon as you leave it's no longer valid, nothing to cancel.

you have to cancel an ed-visa weather it’s an extension of stay of that ed visa or not. You are playing with luck and fire if you not cancel
Chris *********
Anonymous participant 237 put it this way so you can understand. If you can't re-enter on an ed visa then what do you have? Do you have a valid visa? No, if so what do you cancel? You can't can't cancel nothing cause you've got nothing to cancel.

@Chris ********
what you and Tod have done is not the proper way to end an ed visa. You got lucky, that’s it
Tod *********
Anonymous participant 237 you do NOT, there is no "playing with luck and fire"

When you stamp out on an extension (without a re-entry permit) you're "off that extension" <- meaning you can't re-enter on it

AND

That means you CAN buy a new visa to enter thailand on

You most probably have an extension of stay, not a visa.
